Most likely he'll be released if he doesn't get traded, what's the use of him being in the RL if he can't play?

I don't know what the point would be if the Padres put him on the RL. Unless the reason being is for him just walking out on the Padres. Something maybe similar to what Bubba Trammell did on the Yanks?

He will be released, he was a minor league invite so they won't trade him.

Yes their is a difference between a minor league invite and signing a minor league contract. Ordonez signed a Minor League Deal with a Spring Training Invite. So thus he is under contract with the pads so if they want they could very much so trade him and get something in return.
