    Yes their is a difference between a minor league invite and signing a minor league contract. Ordonez signed a Minor League Deal with a Spring Training Invite. So thus he is under contract with the pads so if they want they could very much so trade him and get something in return.

      Sometimes I have flashbacks when Rey Ordonez was up with runners in scoring position. It's kind of depressing when you don't even consider the possibility of a base hit.
