I stopped watching the game, but Mussina's gonna be a problem. I think the arms in the bullpen are fine. But Mussina is a headache.

I definitely think the Yanks will have enough offense to cover the starting pitchers, so they'll be fine in the long-run.

But, Mussina might just be a 5 inning per game pitcher and that's not going to cut it as a #1.

Well he is only #1 since he opened the season on the hill. When the postseason gets here, if he has not learned to limit his pitch counts he will be the #3 or a bullpen pitcher. I am not worried yet, Moose seems to always start off slow and pick up steam. It still goes back to getting out of the first inning. One I also forgot to mention was Cone. Tonight he threw over 20 pitches in the 1st. Luckily he only gave up the one run but looking back the last few years, when the Yanks have a quick work of the first inning, the starters normally perform well. But when they labor in the first, they tend to labor the entire game. I cant really knock Mel for what he has done, but he was coaching some mega stars and it might be time to start looking for someone else to be the pitching coach. I am holoding judgement on that one until the season is a couple months old. No need to panic yet as 1998 started off pretty bad also. If the end reslut can match that year I will be happy.

Dont write off the D Rays. They are the real deal. They have a chance to finish 3rd in the division even tho baltimore and toronto will be tough to top. And on that note i dont think anybody is writing off the yankees. Who knows maybe the D rays will play my Marlins in the World Series. But i wouldnt mind beating the yankees again.

First off, Moose is fine. The guy doesn't go from being a 200 inning a year pitcher to a 5 inning pitcher overnight. I attribute both his starts to the whole flight to Japan and back. If he's pitching like this by the end of the month, then maybe it's time to worry. But I doubt it.

As for the D-Rays, they will be lucky if they don't lose 90 games. Their pitching is just not good enough. Zambrano is average (he walks way too many to be an 'ace'), and after that, it's downhill. Gonzalez, Abbott, Moss, Halama, Hendrickson, whoever, are way below average. The bullpen is okay, I guess. Baez is shaky as a closer. They have a decent offense, but it's not enough to offset the pitching.

I wonder if Yanks fans will ever start to admit that the D-rays kept 'em honest? Yanks BARELY scratch away a win, 3-2 against the Rays. Rivera nearly threw the game away. Abbott held 'em to 2 through 6 innings, the team Torre ran out there today actually looked decent. He reworked the lineup the right way, used the Yanks how they should be used. Still yet the D-rays got close to breaking it open. I mean, I know it's just the start of the season, but I'm betting dime to dollar that it's going to be like this all season long. just you wait.
