    Re: MLB Off-Topic

I haven't watched a single game this year due to all the BLM bs. These protests do nothing except to try and get some "brownie" points from the media. This is why the ratings are down for the NBA and MLB. "Get Woke, Go Broke".

Taijuan Walker changes his number yet again.

The technically biggest change in history from a numerical point of view.

He went from 99 to 00.

Jays are probably only team to have a 99 and 00 on their team.

the double zero thing always makes me think in a hundred years, so many numbers will be retired, teams will have to issue out 01, 02, 03 etc. Taijuan will be the first Blue Jay since the mid-80's to have 0 or 00 (Al Oliver - 0) (Cliff Johnson - 00). NASCAR been doing it for decades and decades.

Teams will just have to use higher numbers. It only took until the past few decades for sports to really embrace higher numbers. Some teams up until recently didnt even like having high numbers. I know in hockey the Leafs for a short time had a GM who hated high numbers and guys had to change numbers. Even numbers in the 40s seemed high.

I wonder if we ever will have players allowed to wear triple digits.

But that's for a diff reason, not to mention ref gear is diff.

Trying to fit 3 numbers on a jersey would require smaller numbers. Kid sized numbers on adult jerseys probably. Although I have a jersey with the small numbers and find they're fine.

Could be an unpopular opinion here, but I'm actually a fan of some of these rule changes (7-inning doubleheaders, runner on 2nd base to start extra innings, NL DH) that MLB packed into the 2020 season because of the pandemic. Wish they were made permanent.

I don't like the first 2 you mentioned, but I liked the NL DH rule.

Expanded playoffs of course I love too, especially right now.

No offense, but I think only primary fans of an NL team should make that decision haha. I personally couldn't care less about AL team fans' opinions on it. I'm not saying you're not allowed to voice it, but I don't think it should count in a vote.

I think somebody once mentioned that even the players like the DH in the NL. Of course they do, they want more plate appearances and defensive opportunities! Some pitchers are probably frightful at the plate to boot. But they will make the millions regardless, and they aren't the viewing audience, we are. The people who watch the game should be most heavily considered.

Now, if we took a vote that only included NL fans, might the majority sway in favor of the DH? Possibly. I wouldn't be voting that way, though.

I like them as well, although I hope the 7 inning double headers aren’t permanent.

The extra innings and NL DH, I hope stick for next year

I'm less adamant on the 7-inning double-headers, but I've been a longtime proponent of an NL DH (and after having seen 36 games without pitchers swinging like fools at pitches in the dirt, I don't think I'm missing anything) and the runner on the 2nd thing has made extra innings more interesting imo. Those 6 hour, 16 inning marathon games are draining as hell to watch.

The runner on 2nd rule just seems to be a case of managing to the exception rather than the rule. Over 80% of normal extra inning games are finished by the 12th inning (adds a little over an hour to a game for those 3 innings). The real marathon games are extremely rare.

I won't rehash my thoughts on the NL DH, but no thanks.

yeah, no thank-you to 7 inning games. if someone throws a 7 inning perfecto, I don't think I can equate that to as exceptional as a 9 inning perfect game. as for all the other new changes, my biggest problem is there are too many at once. I'd rather ease into all the changes gradually. NL DH permanent starting 2021, I can live with that albeit begrudgingly. automatic baserunners in extra innings, I'd rather they put that on the backburner until say 2025. and then try for at least 5 or 6 seasons to see if it would work for automatic baserunners AFTER the 10th or 11th inning. then bump it up to automatic baserunners after the 9th inning in 2030, but only if they feel it absolutely necessary.
