Re: MLB Off-Topic
It will be funny to see teams fall short of their lowered maximum capacities. I understand that there are a variety of factors at play (Jays playing away from home with no substantial fan base there, health concerns, etc) but it will be funny to see someone only get 40% of their 25% capacity.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Percentage is what I was looking at though. Obviously they'll have lower attendance numbers, but percentage I figured would've been higher. Especially over TB who is playing indoors (and when WWE used Tropicana Field, they didn't let any fans in).Comment

Dunedin has been their ST home since day 1, with Dunedin Blue Jays being an affiliate since the start. And lots of older canadians head down south. So they should have no issue packing the stadium to their limit.
A team like Miami is funny though. Their "reduced capacity" is actually their average percentage in a normal year.
But hopefully financially things dont get too bad. Jays for instance having under 2,000 fans a game is like 5% of their real average attendance.
People dont like it, but expansion will be coming. An easy chance for over 60m for each of the 30 teams in expansion fees while creating hundreds of new jobs, I dont see either side rejecting that.Comment

I didn't mean to say that Toronto won't hit their 15% capacity at that small stadium, I'd bet they will, I was just using that as an example of some of the things that will be a factor in teams not having capacity crowds.
Hell, it's a 45 minute drive from Tampa to Dunedin. Depending where you live in the Tampa area, it'd be faster and less stressful to go to a Jays game than a Rays game. Nicer stadium too. [emoji16]

Re: MLB Off-Topic
since the first expansion in the early 1960's, this is the longest mlb has ever gone w/o expanding. and since population isn't about to drastically decrease (not even because of covid) so expansion is always going to be inevitable. I'd like to see a 32 team league and keep it that way for the next 20-25 yearsComment

Manfred has always said expansion won't happen before those 2 situations get sorted out, but I think its only a matter of time before those teams get handed an ultimatum. Have an official and agreed upon plan in place by X or else relocation options will begin.
If I'm an owner of the other teams, knowing theres dozens of millions of free dollars to be had, but the holdup is those 2 markets and their decade long failed stadium plans, I'm pushing for the MLB to act on it and get things resolved asap.
We really could just have 4 divisions of 8 teams. Travel wise and timezone wise, it would make sense.Last edited by Majingir; 03-31-2021, 04:35 PM.Comment

Is expansion really feasible for MLB? There are already a handful of teams with their entire payroll less than what some players are makingComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
If teams had a payroll floor (teams who go UNDER the floor dont get revenue sharing money), it would give owners more incentive to spend. If you're having issues spending even a decent amount of money on your team, you dont deserve to have a team, and I don't see how the MLB or PA could have no problem with that. Less money spent on a team means bad news for players, and bad news for fans of those teams. Both sides should be wanting a floor.Comment
