I hate intentional puns as most just aren't very punny (pun intended)

Re: MLB Off-Topic
The Orioles have accepted that their pitching is always going to be awful, so for the first time in roughly twenty years they're altering the Camden Yards dimensions.
They're moving the left field wall back 30 feet, and raising it's height by 5 feet in hopes to possibly bring down the number of home runs.
It's surely due mostly to visiting powerhouse AL East offenses, but since opening in 1992 no ballpark has seen more home runs than Camden Yards.Boston Red Sox

Re: MLB Off-Topic
An interesting stat I saw in the NFL OT thread which made me wonder about the MLB comparison.
In the NFL, ever since they expanded the playoffs last year, all but 1 coach who hasn't made the playoffs under the expanded playoff format has been fired.
If/when MLB has their expanded playoffs, whether it be with 6,7 or 8 teams, could we see that trend in baseball too?The Orioles have accepted that their pitching is always going to be awful, so for the first time in roughly twenty years they're altering the Camden Yards dimensions.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It appears that intentional walks are not counted in the stat, nor should they be. But then again, they also shouldn't be included in total batters faced either. So instead it's 133 out of 20244.
Now let's not obscure things here, that's only a rate increase of 0.005% haha. I checked my official unwritten rules handbook that I got from Goose Gossage and I’m going to need to know the score of the game when the 3-0 HR was hit before we can determine if he should have plunked himComment

April 19, 1994
Game tied 0-0 in the top of the 2nd. Todd Zeile hit a HR on a 3-0 count to make it 1-0.
Cards would go on to win the game 5-4. Braves were 13-1 before that game.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I also just learned that "throwing a Maddux" means a complete game shutout with under 100 pitches thrown, this is probly common knowledge to baseball guys, but new to me. Greg had 13, nearly double that of anyone else since the stat started getting tracked in '88
I'm a stats dork and can't believe I never knew about this. Of course I check the Tigers and the fewest pitches thrown in a Maddux* was ...

In minor league baseball news, the Portland Pickles have found themselves in a bit of an.....umm, pickle.

But seriously, far as pickles go, that's a smaller one than I expected (yes, double entendre).Comment
