Yeah off the top of my head I don't think there's really been a can't miss #1 overall guy since maybe Gerrit Cole...he followed a strong back to back of Harper and Strasburg, since then there haven't really been any consensus #1 picks at the top of the board. Lot's of talent at the top, but you are right there are no QB's in baseball to build around. Depth is a must

Re: MLB Off-Topic
So do the comp picks go away immediately or does that start next off season? I’m hoping the Mets don’t lose the pick they were going to get for losing SyndergaardComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I used to be anti-DH but came around on it. You can do some nice things with the DH spot like using it as a half day off, and it opens another spot to keep a hot bench bat in the lineup.
With the draft, I agree with Jayson Stark that the non-playoff teams should draft in inverse order of their record. So the teams with the worst record end up drafting in the middle and are punished for being noncompetitive.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Draft lottery in baseball is pointless. If any draft needs to be fixed it's all the other leagues. Do away with lotteries and just have teams ordered based on their finish the last 2 or 3 seasons.
However, it might come into effect day 1 of the new CBA, so if a FA isn't signed yet, the new rules apply to them.
I remember when the NHL had that stupid draft pick compensation if a team hired a coach/gm who was fired from another team, they had to give up a draft pick. That rule lasted maybe 2 years or so, but even when the rule got removed, the teams who gave up picks didnt get them back even though the draft didnt happen yet.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I just wouldn't mess with draft lotteries in baseball. Maybe top 3 to throw some meat to the "tanking is bad" people, but outside of that, no.
You want to see bottom feeders not tank? End revenue sharing. But that's never going to happen.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Or, and hear me out here, we just add a salary cap and floor.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
But that ain't happening either. Or lets put it this way, if I wake up from a coma and you tell me baseball has a salary cap/floor then I will assume MLB lost a whole season.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Ending revenue sharing ain't happening because the owners won't allow it, salary cap because of the Union.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
And that's with a sort-of cap with the luxury tax and the Union trying to enforce a ghost salary floor by filing grievances against teams spending too little.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I used to say that too, but once MLB instituted the three batter rule for relievers, I stopped caring as much.
Then I enjoyed the season with the universal DH, so I was all for it.
