It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine. -

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Which team is currently most likely to go on a mid season turnaround? The two teams I think of when it comes to turnarounds are the 2009 Rockies and of course the 2019 Nationals. Rockies were 18-29 before Clint Hurdle resigned and Jim Tracy took over but were quickly 47-41 by All Star break and finished with the wild card spot at 92-70, almost stealing division from the Dodgers
Nationals started 19-31 following a sweep by the Mets (the team that was SUPPOSED to be the dark horse competitor in the division), but led by 3 different pitchers to have 200 strikeouts, they went 28-11 after to get to 47-42. They were set up for a monster second half of the season and it became clear they had a stranglehold on the first wild card spot in the NL, but I don’t think anyone had any idea they’d run the table, myself included
My pick for a mid season turnaround is Philly. I know Harper and Castellanos are carrying their squad right now and that defense is still a cause for concern, but let’s look beyond surface level. Their rotation is more than acceptable with Wheeler / Nola / Gibson as their top 3 rotation arms, and despite the struggles to form any consistency the top half of the lineup has more than enough power while the bottom half has guys that can consistently put the ball in play (Segura, Gregorious)
I had them at 88-74 before the season and I still think they’re the 2nd best team in the NL East behind the Mets

Very pleased with Matt Carpenter's mustache now that he's a Yankee. Very pleased indeed. More Yankees need to avail themselves of the mustache.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Manfred once again commenting on possible relocation.
Seems like the Rays stadium lease which ends after 2027 is viewed as a "hard deadline".
And he seems positive about what the As have been doing. Either getting a new stadium or have an option like Vegas.
The Tampa one is interesting. Manfred acknowledged that stadiums do take time to be built. So let's say the Rays aren't allowed by the MLB to stay at Tropicana Field past 2027. What would the deadline need to be to have a new stadium confirmed so that they could play there in 2028?
Based on some of the recent ballparks, 2.5 years seems to be the time it takes to build one. So fall 2025 is when it needs to break grounds. So would 2024 be when they need to have the deal made official? 2 years doesn't seem like much time. But by 2023, I wonder if the MLB starts looking at other options, and if the Rays dont get official approval by the end of 2024, the MLB could have some other city build a new park in time for 2028.Last edited by Majingir; 06-16-2022, 06:08 PM.Comment

I'd like to see both the Rays and Marlins relocated, Florida should be the home to all spring training team sites. but if Tampa and Miami do keep their teams, I'm fine with

The Rays would be in TB for decades drawing 5,000 fans and Bettman would be fine with that.
And Manfred would add a shot clock in hockey.
I think 1 Florida team is fine. Let than 1 team represent the entire state. Do all leagues need so many Florida teams? How exactly does that grow the game when multiple Florida teams across sports do poorly in comparison to the average team? I'm sure they won't lose many fans if you relocated teams from Florida and had 1 main team represent the state (at least for baseball and hockey).Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Verlander said he would've gone to the Jays if he didnt stay with the Astros.
I wonder if he would've been in addition to Jays signings, or it would've been him instead of Gausman or Kikuchi.
If he wants to decline his PO next year he could always come here. I guess it might depend on how those teams seasons play out. If Jays make ALCS or more and/or Astros don't, perhaps he considers it.
Make his potential last season a WS one would be a good way to top off your HOF career.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
All star voting this year has been interesting.
Jays fans have been going crazy with their voting. Reminds me of when the Cubs fans did the same a few seasons back.
Right now, 4 of the 9 starters in the AL would be from the Jays. No offense to Vlad,Springer,Bo, but Kirk (their catcher) is the only position player I'd choose to start the game if I'm being unbiased here. But I'll gladly take all 4. Espinal is in second place to Altuve for 2nd, now that would be a funnier one to see him surpass Altuve. Chapman is in 3rd place for 3B, I dont think he'll get that.Comment
