I'm not going to say that all of these were bad, but it's wild to think that just 4 years ago:

Only the American League had a DH

Teams had a 25 man roster, not 26

Pitchers did not have a 3 batter minimum

Extra innings were not played with an extra runner

There were no rules against the shift

There was no limit to pick off attempts

    There was no pitch clock

    Base sizes were unchanged

Postseason was limited to the 3 divisions winners from each league plus a 1 game wild card playoff

Then I see this article with additional changes on the horizon including 1 that reminds me of some comments that I had a few years ago regarding a specific argument in favor of the DH. Basically, if we're going to have the DH because we don't won't to watch pitchers hitting then why don't we have just reserved spots in the lineup for any position player who is in the game for what he does when his team is not at the plate? Gold glove short stops, catchers, etc... Why not have designated runners for guys who are not athletic on the basepaths? At the time I thought I was just being hyperbolic, but now at least it seems that I may not have been that far off.

I'm not going to get into the merits of any of these changes, some I even liked. It's just kind of wild that there have been what seems like decades worth of changes in just 4 years to a game that has traditionally been very resistant to change.
I'd say no to the double hook rule.

The pinch baserunner rule I don't entirely like either. Does that mean you can just do it basically every inning? IF that ever becomes a thing, it better be allowed once per game, so teams need to be real selective.

Just a fun little nugget to show just how insane Judge's season was last year.

Most all of us know Acuna is absolutely on a tear so far this year. If you don't, through 18 games he has .368BA, 3HR, 5Doubles, 7SB and 1.001OPS. HRs are still down slightly at 25.3 AB/HR, but his other tools are shining and he's driving the ball right now.

That and everything else he's done so far has added up to 1.1 WAR already. Extrapolate that out to 162 for fun and we get 9.9WAR.

Judge last season finished with 10.6WAR....

Labor peace (mostly) and now all this rules changes, including the pitch clock, who may end up being nothing short of revolutionary for baseball.

If Manfred adds successfully transitioning from Bally to whatever MLB TV package it ends up being and resolving once and for all the Oakland/Tampa Bay situations to his resume that's pretty formidable.

I hate Manfred's concept of baseball. He's significantly worse than Selig in my opinion.

I'm fine with reducing time between action. I just don't like what he defines as action.

They can’t use the excuse of being poor now. They better spend on Free Agents if they get to Vegas. If they still act like the same old A’s it’ll be disappointing. Though best solution is after they relocate and then sell the team to a richer owner who is willing to spend on players.

2027 seems like a long time.

I thought their deal was up in 2024, meaning 2025 would've been when they'd have to move out?

Either way, next up, the Rays. Move them or else!

For real though, having it basically official almost 4 years out, that seems like a long time to know about your franchise leaving.

The Expos you knew would be moving, but that was still just a short time out.

Other moves we often didn't know about until that very offseason.

I guess they can't play in some temporary ballpark for 2 seasons? If you play even in their AAA ballpark, that's gonna draw more than the As ballpark anyways, and you could over charge people too.

They’ve always had plenty of money - they’ve been the real life version of the Indians from Major League for awhile now but when their players got up and good they just traded them instead of allowing them to make a magical run to the ALCS.

I hope they don’t rebrand. Uniforms are already beautiful and they would only need to update the road greys.

I don't see them rebranding or changing much honestly.

They've been the Athletics for 122 years now. I bet the road gray just changes to Vegas.

I'm torn on the A's changing their colors. The green and gold looks great, and there isn't much green in MLB. But on the other hand, to me, a Vegas team needs to wear purple. Purple is a snazzy, opulent color, like Vegas. If they just switched the green for purple and kept the gold and everything else, that could work. And then maybe wear the green and gold as an alternate?

Which brings me to Nike's asinine uniform limit. It's the opposite of what they do with the NBA, where I don't recall seeing a team wear the same uniform twice (granted, I haven't watched basketball since the 2000s).

I have to imagine they'll move to Vegas sooner and just play somewhere else like the Aviators stadium. Like you say, they'd draw more there than they will in Oakland. Maybe they could move the Aviators to Oakland.

Otherwise, it's going to be like a couple having a bitter divorce and both staying in the same house. Would be awkward, man! Not to mention the loss of revenue.
