"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Statement from Yu: I am not and have never been involved with gambling activities. While I understand Major League Baseball ... must conduct an investigation, I am certain that they will find that I had no involvement in this matter whatsoever.PSN-Shugarooo

He may not be involved but I hope for his sake he didn't answer any questions his brother might have asked that would give him some kind of inside edge.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Was watching a documentary on Ted Williams and the subject of 1941 came up when DiMaggio had his streak and Williams hit .406. Was looking at some stats and guess how many times Joe D struck out in 1941 (621 PA)??
13 times.
And Ted Williams still blew him out of the water in offensive value that year.
One last bit...can you believe Ted Williams never had 200 hits in a season? Goes to show how much he walked.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

How's this for a pitcher's duel?
Can't really say they faced weak lineups either with Eddie Matthews and Hank Aaron on one side and Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, and Orlando Cepeda on the other.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

A completely different era of baseball for sure. The truth is these guys went to the mound expecting to complete the game, so they paced themselves in order to do that. Even then, to do what they did that day was remarkable!"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment
