Re: MLB Off-Topic
Actually, I think it'll be more likely along the lines of "you're only allowed one mound visit per inning with RISP".Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
That's ridiculous. Not saying it's incorrect, I'm saying it's so strange that they take so long between pitches. When I batted and pitched, I got right back there and ready to go.
During one of the playoff games, I was a half hour behind, and hit the 30-second advance button on my remote after every pitch. Never missed a single pitch.
If it's the ninth inning and the closer is making sure the sign he wants is that perfect one with the crowd behind a payoff pitch, I understand a little bit of time in between pitches. This is just far too much.
I'm glad these are put in play, but I hope to never have to hear a horn or something, or watch an umpire signal a ball to the pitcher. I just hope the players follow it. Bring my intentional walks back, though.
Yeah, its ridiculous how long some of these pitchers take between pitches.Way back in the day, my Coach, and Grampa told me I didnt need to rush, because as soon as I got the ball back, I was on the rubber, ready to go. They were like, you dont have a time limit, mess with your cap, walk around the mound
I do think someone thing needs done to keep hitters in the box, and pitchers to not take so long between pitches. I hate to see a clock in baseball, but if thats what it take to move things along a little faster then Im fine with it.
I also think there probably needs to be a limit for catchers visits to the mound. I cant believe Im saying this, since I was a pitcher back int he day, but this day in age, there is way too many visits by the catcher.
What I dont want to see, is the extra inning rules, that we saw in the WBC, I didnt like it in the WBC, but I understood it had to be done, due to when its being played.
What I want to see brought back, is the Intentional walk, I didnt like the idea when they implemented it, and I dont like it now after seeing it this season. This did nothing to speed up the game, and as we have see thru the yrs, its not a guaranteed 4 pitch walk either, as we have seen game won and lost due to a pitcher not being able to throw it accurately to the catcher.
I worry they are so concerned about pace of play, they are going to ruin the integrity of the game, just to please a bunch of casual fans. Personally I never think wow this game it taking to long, whether Im watching it on TV or at the ballpark watching the game.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: MLB Off-Topic
No matter what anyone tells you, that extra inning debacle at the WBC was actually in the planning stages to be used in the lower minors and in the AFL at some point but seeing it implemented in practice and how much of a blow back it got from fans Manfred and MLB wisely said "oh no no, this is just for WBC play. We had NO intention of bringing this to the MLB level."Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Why do we need a pitch clock? Didn't we save loads of time by just pointing to first base for intentional walks?
The game has never been quicker.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yep, I agree, whoever came up with that idea, needs to not be part of any baseball decisions moving forward. Your not a true baseball fan, if you think its OK to just start a inning with a couple guys on base. Probably the same fool, who said hey lets do away with the Intentional walk to speed up play, and just tell the hitter to take his base.
They truly want to speed up games, then give the replay reviews guys 60 seconds to decide if it needs overturned or not, if you can decide within 60 seconds, play stands as called.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

We have that extra inning rule in the fast pitch softball league I play in... That's where this kind of stuff belongs, not at the highest level of baseball.Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
If you ever see the offside controversies in NHL, you'd know how much of a joke leagues can make replays if they don't want it.
60 second rule for replays is needed in all sports. No looking at 10 diff angles at 3 diff speeds to figure it out. Regardless which side of a review I'm on, I have fairly good idea if it's conclusive or not after 20 or so seconds or most.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Sigh...baseball hasn't even been gone for a month and I'm missing it. I'm watching the AFL Championship on MLB Network and seeing the sunshine in AZ, hearing the crack of the bat, the pop of the mitt, makes me long for Spring Training."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Two Cubs pitchers that came in did not look very good. Man that system is void of pitching talent.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It's going to be really interesting to see what Theo/Jed do to keep the Cubs in the mix. The pitching on the MLB roster is getting old really fast and as you said, there isn't much in the system."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: MLB Off-Topic
As much as they may not want to, they need to trade one or two of the young position players for pitching. I think they'll do that this WinterComment
