Why does Montreal need a baseball team, again? I get that nostalgia has a way of making people forget the failed and ugly times in general, but I feel like the shine and excitement for a team in Montreal would last about as long as it did for the Miami Marlins.

Montreal was a good market until the ownership cheaped out on them and the Big O became antiquated. That fanbase got screwed over royally to the point that they just said "screw it". I believe with a committed ownership and a new stadium they'll do well. Montreal only became a "bad market" post '94.

There have always been 2 competing narratives. One, Montreal fans don't give a crap about baseball and can't/won't support a MLB team. The other is Montreal's poor ownership group starting with Claude Brochu and culminating in the man/myth/legend Jeffrey Loria mismanaged the club out of Montreal, perhaps on purpose Loria's case.

I don't think one narrative can really win over the other unless the Expos could get a fresh start with a modern stadium and committed ownership group and see how that goes.

The Tigers will be retiring the numbers 3 and 47 in August. Classy gesture by the organization for a couple of their biggest stars of the '80s.

And Marvin Miller left off. I think this was his last year on the ballot.

Nope I was never on either of their sides before, feel the same way now. Nothing changed in the 20+ years since each retired.

Nice to see MLB give the Detroit City Council voting rights for this thing...

With winter meetings going on, will we be getting confirmation /explanation on the pitch clocks?

We'll know most likely when the commish does his state of the game address. I believe that's on the 13th or 14th.
