I don't think Votto is that good of a comp. for Tony Gwynn and it has nothing to do with batting average or strikeouts. It has more to do with Gwynn being reluctant to take BBs and Votto being plenty willing to never take the bat off its moorings. Gwynn walked in 7.7% of his career plate appearances, which is quite mediocre for an elite hitter in this day and age. Votto is at 16.2 BB%, or more than double Gwynn. To me, this makes Tony Gwynn that much more ridiculous of a comparison because he was up there to get hits and swing the bat. Pitchers weren't trying to avoid him like they do with major power hitters. It played into Tony's hands for sure.

Please no. Those things were hideous and didn't do anything to decrease the time it took for the pitcher to come to the mound. They were introduced solely as a gimmick.

I don't think I know what song any reliever on my team runs out to. Makes no difference. The jog doesn't add any personality except maybe for a Heath Bell who sprinted to the mound. The cart might be a dumb idea but it has nothing to do with personality.

This is crazy to me, especially coming from a Yankees fan.

I was so pissed when I finally got to visit Yankee Stadium and saw that Mariano wasn't available to pitch that day. I was dying to see him come into a game live in person.

I saw Trevor Hoffman enter in person in San Diego. God that was incredibly bad ***.

We talk about the fans "being bored" and making the game fun for fans, well few things are guaranteed to pump up the crowd more than their team's closer coming in to shut the door on the game with their trademark music playing. Driving in on a cartoon cart? Eh, not so much.

I don't know, I think it's "little" production things like this that come together to make a full package. I hate that wrestling, for example, has absolutely lost sight of "the little things." I don't want that to happen here too, but it's happening with this and all the other **** that gets floated around by the tyrant in charge and the baseball media behind him.
