Chicago has comparatively decent content, but it's more for the amusement of when they let the dumb callers through just to pillory their idiotic opinions for 3 solid hours. Not really for actual contemplation.
I don't care what the CALLERS are saying...it's the HOSTS who are clearly given this direction by their producers/directors. ESPN has this drum they are beating about baseball being broken...it's just getting old.

Can't really trust call in radio, it's literally the hosts job to say controversial things in the hope of getting people to angrily call up and point out how wrong they are.

Here in the UK the main sports radio station is Talksport, who's entire 24 hour a day content is based around trolling the listeners for a reaction. (then if that doesn't work they get interns to ring in and pretend to be fans of certain teams and say things to bait other fans). Phone in radio is the worst.

Oh I was listening to them too. I don't think it was meant to be taken seriously. I didn't anyway. I thought it was more sarcastic

To be fair to them, I tuned in half way through the conversation so you may be right. I was driving my kids around from practice to practice and after I had dropped them off had to get rid of the pop radio they were listening to. I tuned into ESPN hoping for at least a basketball game or something and instead it was this lunacy.

Whether or not the hosts were being serious or not I don't think it's fair to say baseball is "broken" however I will concede there are trends that are killing the individuality and strategy of the game. The art of getting the guy over from 1st to 2nd is pretty much dead as is the hit and run/run and hit. The little things like getting the ball on the ground through the infield is just not promoted anymore.

I also think the shift is a long term detriment to the game as is "bullpenning" as it makes the game a bit homogeneous in a rather boring way. Still, the talent and skill on the field is the best we've ever seen in our lifetimes and probably the best overall since the '50s maybe?

The last time they did this was 2012. I could handle another A's season like that.

Did anyone see Rich Eisen tweet today about an MLB Executive letting him know about a proposed rule change that would permit a team that is trailing in the 9th inning to bat whoever they wanted for the first 3 hitters of an inning?

This was the statement to justify it:

“No other sport has the best players sitting on the bench in the final minutes of a game. Imagine LeBron, Brady, Renaldo [sic] watching from the sidelines.”

                  I swear...

That's pretty wild....like there aren't enough comebacks in MLB already?

No other sport has physical limitations on a player playing day-to-day either. Only the offensive team would benefit because a baseball team literally couldn't throw potentially their best pitcher out there to answer (if he's a starter).

I'm not even sure if this is the right spot to post this.

Does anyone remember Brett Lawrie who began his Blue Jays career like a Hall of Famer, got traded to Oakland in the Josh Donaldson deal and got released last spring training by the Chicago White Sox before basically falling off the face of the planet?

He's still a fairly young player who you think would get at least a minor-league deal somewhere.

Listen to this radio interview where Lawrie explains his injury situation. It's very odd. I've never heard of this type of injury and he seems to blame the White Sox at the end.

If that's legit and it ever comes to pass I will seriously stop watching baseball for the rest of my life or until that rule is taken out. That's just insanity.

Speaking of insanity, I almost had to do a "R.I.P." post about Al Leiter. The guy did an 8 minute demo of his spring training regimen and by the end of it he looked like he was about to have a heart attack!

I think more what you're getting at is the deterioration of situational hitting. What you're describing isn't the lack of strategy, it's an evolving understanding of the value of outs vs the likelihood of scoring. People are realizing that it's not worth giving up an out to move a guy one base if he still can't score without a hit/multiple guys coming to the plate. Getting a guy from 1st to 2nd by giving away an out isn't art.. it's inefficient offense. However, the inability for some teams to get a runner in from 3rd with less than 2 outs is disturbing cough Cubs cough

Were they filling in for the Le Batard show? I could see them going over the top to try and be funny like when Stugotz asked Manfred about a "magic bat" rule, or when they thought a moat of sharks would be better than a warning track. Or a ball pit to dive into. They might've just been going for the bit.

**** needing LeBron or Tom Brady or "Renaldo" with the game on the line.
