Re: MLB Off-Topic
This was the Spain & Fitz show on ESPN...it was the HOSTS who were suggesting these things and they were asking callers their thoughts. The callers at least thought it was crazy...they had a few that were on board, but for the most part they all were adverse to their suggestions.
Here in the UK the main sports radio station is Talksport, who's entire 24 hour a day content is based around trolling the listeners for a reaction. (then if that doesn't work they get interns to ring in and pretend to be fans of certain teams and say things to bait other fans). Phone in radio is the worst.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
To be fair to them, I tuned in half way through the conversation so you may be right. I was driving my kids around from practice to practice and after I had dropped them off had to get rid of the pop radio they were listening to. I tuned into ESPN hoping for at least a basketball game or something and instead it was this lunacy."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Whether or not the hosts were being serious or not I don't think it's fair to say baseball is "broken" however I will concede there are trends that are killing the individuality and strategy of the game. The art of getting the guy over from 1st to 2nd is pretty much dead as is the hit and run/run and hit. The little things like getting the ball on the ground through the infield is just not promoted anymore.
I also think the shift is a long term detriment to the game as is "bullpenning" as it makes the game a bit homogeneous in a rather boring way. Still, the talent and skill on the field is the best we've ever seen in our lifetimes and probably the best overall since the '50s maybe?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Did anyone see Rich Eisen tweet today about an MLB Executive letting him know about a proposed rule change that would permit a team that is trailing in the 9th inning to bat whoever they wanted for the first 3 hitters of an inning?
This was the statement to justify it:
“No other sport has the best players sitting on the bench in the final minutes of a game. Imagine LeBron, Brady, Renaldo [sic] watching from the sidelines.”

No other sport has physical limitations on a player playing day-to-day either. Only the offensive team would benefit because a baseball team literally couldn't throw potentially their best pitcher out there to answer (if he's a starter).Comment

I swear, its like they all got into a room and had a competition of who could come up with stupidest idea.
Whoever thought of this one has to be in the lead.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I'm not even sure if this is the right spot to post this.
Does anyone remember Brett Lawrie who began his Blue Jays career like a Hall of Famer, got traded to Oakland in the Josh Donaldson deal and got released last spring training by the Chicago White Sox before basically falling off the face of the planet?
He's still a fairly young player who you think would get at least a minor-league deal somewhere.
Listen to this radio interview where Lawrie explains his injury situation. It's very odd. I've never heard of this type of injury and he seems to blame the White Sox at the end.

If that's legit and it ever comes to pass I will seriously stop watching baseball for the rest of my life or until that rule is taken out. That's just insanity.
Speaking of insanity, I almost had to do a "R.I.P." post about Al Leiter. The guy did an 8 minute demo of his spring training regimen and by the end of it he looked like he was about to have a heart attack!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

**** needing LeBron or Tom Brady or "Renaldo" with the game on the line.
I'm perfectly fine with Travis Ishikawa being the one to send a team to the World Series.Comment
