The article below explains what is on the wristband the Rockies catchers are using. I've seen ATL catchers using a large QB-type wristband, I presume it's similar in concept.

Too bad to hear that Brewers TV color analyst Davey Nelson passed away. I enjoyed watching the 'enemy' broadcasts with he and BA when blacked out of Cubs broadcasts for some reason or other.

Given how long both have been playing, it isn't as big a surprise. Although I was expecting more AL Central guys to be higher up.

ARod is one of best hitters vs him, Ortiz one of worst. He's also faced 18 hall of fame players.

lol, you wanna know how long Colon has pitched? He has faced Eddie Murray, hall of famer and 1977 rookie of the year. And there's a chance Colon could pitch long enough to face a batter who wasn't even born when Colon made his MLB debut. I think Victor Robles of the Nats(in their farm system but played some last year) is the only player who has ever played in MLB who was born after Colon made his debut, though if Colon is around for this entire season, there's bound to be someone making their MLB debut who was born 97 or later.

We used something similar to this at Redlands when I was the pitching coach and called pitches. We just used it for pitch calling.. this seems to be much more intricate in terms of the information provided.

Is the article trying to say that the indielders also have cards?

I feel it wasn't clear. Also how are they sending these signals to the catcher?

As in if it's 143 are the coaches showing fingers for 1,4 and 3? I wish the article was a bit more detailed.

Regarding those wristbands um...This seems like the progression of what Gary Sanchez has been wearing throughout his career. He also sports a QB style wristband as well. So while it may seem "revolutionary" it probably really isn't. It's just taking a concept to its natural end point.

BTW regarding cards, i've seen this year (more than other years to be honest with you) OFs taking index cards out of their back pockets. From what the Jays broadcast leads me to believe the cards have reports on where OFs should position themselves when a certain batter is at the plate.

Did they last year? I would hope that's a holdover from Brian Butterfield. I'm a HUGE fan of Butter. I was kinda hoping he'd get the Jays managerial job when Gibby was re-hired instead.

Fielders with cards for positioning isn't new. Been going on before this year.

I'm more curious about the code system.

The manager sends the code, all of them were between 1 and 5 so I'm assuming they're using fingers. The catcher said if they use it once they won't use it again and that they have 10 different cards so maybe they switch cards in between innings or something? Or they only use it for the running game, so I guess they just have duplicate instructions with different codes.

Its less interesting to me if they don't use it for pitches.

Manfred at Rogers Centre today. His comments about the stadium...
“It needs an update to make it as economically viable as possible.”
"Given the passage of time (Rogers Centre) is probably out of date in terms of the amenities that are available in many of our ballparks."

Too bad there's not much they can do with the stadium. They built it to be a multi-purpose stadium at the expense of the baseball experience. If they ever build a new stadium, I hope they put majority of the seats in fair territory, and the further back rows aren't directly underneath the concrete for the level above.

So many parts of the stadium just feels so isolated. OF seats especially, unless you're near the foul pole or by the bullpen(in one of the front rows), I don't find the experience to be enjoyable at all.

I think it's just talking about the catcher wearing one. If I'm understanding it right and it's what I think it is, the coach will give a number with his fingers like you're saying, and it relates to something on the card. The article said it's more about controlling the run game, so my guess it is has information about when to pick over and maybe how long to hold or how many looks to take at 2B, or when to slide step.

The infielders wouldn't necessarily need to have a card if it's just information the pitcher and catcher need. But they could probably be easily incorporated into it if you wanted.
