Just my ignorance. I didn't realize that they used to have 2 all-star games per season, and the math didn't add up to me.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia dismisses report he'll step down.

Too bad, he doesn't manage my team but I was tired of Mike Scioscia at least 10 years ago.

Aha...gotcha. I think most people don't realize there were two all star games in the late 1950's/early 1960's.

I think he's just saving face, he will step down. At some point the team needs a new message in the room. I wouldn't be surprised if the Angels go with a younger guy in the Maddon mold. Scioscia will most likely take on an advisory role to the GM after this year.

Mike Scioscia can step down all he wants. The Angels will not be successful so long as they continue having so many injuries year after year after year after year.

Even more so, I bet it's the front office threatening it. "You can't win with this roster? You injured Shohei by mismanaging his pitching?? You're the one responsible for Mike Trout not being a household name??? You'll be forced to resign at the end of this year."

25, you say? That's a very interesting number.

So I was randomly looking at some 1960s Detroit Tigers teams on Baseball Reference, and noticed that Norm Cash had himself a very nice season in 1961: .361/.487/.662 with 41 HR 132 RBI 10.2 WAR. I noticed he placed 4th in the AL MVP and thought "are you serious? who else in the AL in 1961 could've done better?" Well, yeah. Silly question. Roger Maris, as we all know, hit 61 homers that season. Mickey Mantle also went off: .317/.448/.687 with 54 HR 128 RBI 10.3 WAR. Jim Gentile was 3rd: .302/.423/.646 46 HR 141 RBI 8.0 WAR. All WAR values are from FanGraphs.

Granted, back then, criteria weren't what they are now, but I think Norm Cash had the best season of the bunch.

                                Amazing statistic I ran across.

Manny Ramirez in 2005 had a 1.058 OPS in 152 games which is an elite hitter but his defense was SO bad that his fWAR was 2.9. I just find that astounding that his defense cost his team so much that it nearly negated his supremely elite bat.
