This metal detector at every MLB stadium is just ridiculous. It doesn't really do anything. It's pretty much a PR point for MLB while actually accomplishing very little.

After the first 3 days of the season there have been 60 home runs, bringing the all-time total to 273,961.

At this rate, someone should hit lucky number 274,000 sometime late Friday or on Saturday. Which means, as per the gimmick, I will update you gentlemen as soon as it happens.

Yep, I have tickets for Opening Day today and I can't wait. The Rangers put these in rotating locations last year to get people used to it. They have a whole bunch of "white shirts", which are their rent-a-cops dressed for security. The basic criteria for becoming a white shirt are simple: GED preferred but not required, those with manors or an IQ over 60 need not apply.

On three separate occasions last year I had to go through them. I put the phone above my head like directed and it went off. Had to go back and do it three times before it finally accepted me. One time it didn't go off, but the rent-a-cop said that I didn't put the phone fully above my head and that I needed to do it again. I think half the time they are just bored and need to feel important.

Here's a helpful hint if you go to the Ballpark in Arlington: If you run into an issue and have to deal with a white shirt, rear back and punch them as hard as you can in the face and wait for an Arlington Police Officer. They tend to be competent in life.
