I didn't see video, I hope he said this jokingly, this is way too much salt over the home run derby if he's serious lol.
To be fair, if I played for the Rays I'd probably have a chip on my shoulder as well over the complete under appreciation and representation from the media. This is probably more of a cumulative thing than actually about the derby. Pretty much the most talked about he's been in the media this season, despite having a fantastic season, is for having a go at a Yankee. That's got to annoy you.

Probably shouldn't have mentioned Sanchez by name, even if he had a point (bit like Montero on Arrieta) but at the same time, they aren't teammates, they are rivals, you don't need to be nice to them. I love a bit of needle, hopefully spices up the next Rays-Yankees series.

See, for me, if I played for the Rays, I'd take my 2.5 mil to the bank and be concerned with more important things than a HRD snub, it's just the height of irrelevance. I love Gary's response, he's just like that has nothing to do with me. You realize how far down the list of things going wrong in the world you have to go before you hit "I've been left out of the Home Run Derby"? LOL nobody wants to hear that.

To be fair, your a Yankee fan, you have no idea what it's like to be overlooked in the media and never will.

Logan Morrison isn't a world beater and this was probably the best chance to be an all star he'll ever have and he was overlooked. Being in the HR derby would have meant he was still at the All Star game and part of it, yet again, was overlooked. If I missed out on what would probably be the pinnacle of my career, because I played for an unfashionable team, yeah I'd probably be a little salty.

I agree Logan can have a chip on his shoulder but he's angry with the wrong person or establishment.

He generated this anger at Gary Sanchez when he should be openly mocking MLB for not supporting its players no matter the market.

Gary's response is from a person that understands this. Not his fault. Not his choice. He was asked, he said yes.

Why didn't MLB ask Logan? We all know why. Logan knows why. So why not say that instead of running from the bully?

He did have a go at MLB as well tbf, it just didn't make the headlines. He had more than enough grumpiness and salt to go around.

The thing is, there's other factors other than the cumulative frustration from playing in Tampa. I think Morrison REALLY wanted to be part of this HRD so he can have a platform to shine on the field of his former team and the fun factor of going up against his ex teammate in Giancarlo Stanton. It would've added a subtext to this year's derby that would've added some local and some media flair to the event.

Do you think I'm the Yankees mascot or one of the Steinbrenner kids or something? Lol I don't care how many times ESPN says the Yankees, it's not my name. Almost anyone over 13 knows what it means to be overlooked for some kind of recognition. I just don't think this is important. Its the Home Run Derby, and the qualifications have never exclusively been a single years home run total. This is like someone being upset over not getting invited to the Dunk Contest. It's just like, whatever.

That's the push right there. He should keep talking about it. If that was me, I would be holding press conferences every day before and after games with reporters about MLB ignoring their small market players.

What's MLB going to do - fine him? That would only improve his stance.

Is the argument that Evan Longoria and, say, David Price at the time, don't get attention by baseball and baseball media? And the argument is that small, "unsexy" teams don't get action? Tell that to Mike Moustakas and Miguel Sano and Charlie Blackmon.

Are there like, people in the Home Run Derby this year that aren't deserving? You can't invite everybody. The format only holds so many players.

The guy needs to shut the **** up.

I used to think that the Home Run Derby had three items to select players:

                        1) They are the leading HR hitters within their respective leagues.
                        2) They made the All Star team.
                        3) They accepted the invite.

Obviously these are not the parameters, but I always thought that made the most sense, even if those players aren't the sexy bombers out there.

I always liked exceptions to the rule though, like a hometown player and maybe a player on the brink of retirement, stuff like that. Or maybe a player who was injured but was for sure going to get those home runs. Obviously they just select however the hell they want and overlooked Morrison.

I think he is making a larger point about this than just the HRD. It's just a shame he had to bring up Gary Sanchez in this argument.

One thing Logan Morrison needs to realize is that he was a total scrub until this season. OK, to be fair he has been a league-average offensive player and a tomato can of a defender. 5.2 fWAR (2.9 of that total this season) over 3000+ career PAs.

It takes most journeyman/scrubby players a little bit of time to rebuild their reputation. Fans don't necessarily want to see a decent player having a career year when they can see marquee players having their normal years instead. Who would you rather see try to hit massive exhibition homers: Logan Morrison or Gary Sanchez? I'm with Sanchez.

I would definitely watch that...nothing arcade either like what the NFL did...make it realistic.
They used to do it. But Barry Larkin kept getting hurt. I keed I keed. But there were injuries a few years in a row from the skills competition and not much fan interest, so they canned it. I remember watching Wade Boggs (yeah I'm ****ing old) put on a bunting clinic that was just amazing to behold.

The last one was '89 and it was because Barry Larkin blew out his elbow on the relay throw competition.

Pretty good article from BR mag.

They asked a few players about baseball being cool. They all agreed it was and don't want to change the game much.

But what caught my eye is every player (Griffey, Price, Betts, Trout, Harper, Fowler, Adam Jones) said they don't watch the game on television because the announcers and coverage doesn't do the game any justice.

They also agreed that baseball needs to do better to market the stars.

And they all hate advanced stats
