Re: MLB Off-Topic
Just put it all out there. The game is dying a slow death anyway. All the nonsense that's already happened under Manfreds watch should be enough for him to resign.
While the world is in full in protest. Can we storm Manfreds office and demand removal?
He's turned this game into a joke. Selig started it. Then he gave us this spawn of Satan to finish off everything we've loved.
Nobody respects MLB anymore. It's about on par with college basketball. Damn my love for this game and for it running through my blood. I want to be done with it completely.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
ESPN is airing 30 for 30 Sunday night about the 98 home run race with McGwire and Sosa, including interviews from both.
Last pic I saw of Sammy years ago looked like a completely different guy, I imagine he hadn't changed much from that new look?
They're for sure gonna talk about the real reason those guys hit so many HRs I'd imagine. I wonder if those guys were interviewed about that part of it.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
From what I've read there's not much discussion on steroids. A few questions but it's not the focus.

Seems like way more of the public have turned on those guys than someone like Bonds. Sosa and McGwire have gotten little respect in HOF voting.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Yeah it seems like the focus of it was more on the impact of it that summer and not looking at the long term of it. I guess

Say what you want about guys cheating, it did make things more fun for fans (at the time).
Although I'm on the side for the juiced baseballs they have now. It makes things more exciting but also not unfair to a specific team or player since everyone is on level playing field.Comment

I'm sure there will be a doc about how rampant and widespread steroid use was specific to this timeframeYou want free speech?

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Sosa was a shoeshine kid from a 3rd world country. Cheated multiple ways, but what would most of us do trying to chase the American dream?
Bonds was arguably the best player in the game BEFORE roiding out.
I know which of the 3 I'd pick as the biggest loser in that scenario. You want free speech?

Re: MLB Off-Topic
My feed is always got ongoing conversations about the NBA NFL and college football
But ain't nobody even heard of Mike Trout. It's unbelievable. A few people have heard of Harper. That's about it.
There was a time at least when Griffey, Jeter, Bonds Arod, Mcgwire, Sosa, Manny were household names.
Not anymore. Its the main reason I come to OS during the season. Because nobody I personally know really gives a ****.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
But you can't blame people. The 94 strike really hurt the game and alot of people never came back. Then the HR chases happened and baseball became a must see event again
It was really a magical time.
Then the steroid stuff came out. But Selig handled it about as poorly as you could imagine with his clown witch hunts. And further destroyed everything we ever loved about the game. Furthermore, making Bonds the scapegoat.
And now here we are in the era of juiced baseballs. The Posey rule and all these other dumb changes. And now we have the sign stealing nonsense. And the labor negotiations.
This sport is really a joke right now. I thought Roger Goodell and Bud Selig were bad. Here comes Manfred.
I honestly hope mlb and the owners loses so many fans and money. That they literally have to fire dip**** commish to save face. And they can start new. Because what we have going on right now is inexcusable. And it needs a complete overhaul.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I know it’s fun and easy to crap on Manfred for all of baseball’s problems, but saying he’s not confident they’ll play this year and later saying definitely will be a season is a complete **** up. Owners make money so they keep these wildly unpopular commissioners around, make too many mistakes like that and these owners will have your head. They’re squirming losing money from lost games, and he goes out and says that?
Rob’s gonna get a spankin’.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I think the popularity of baseball is going down but I do not think it is entirely MLB's fault. Some of the rule changes are terrible but the world is changing and people do not have the patience to sit around and watch a 3-4 hour game anymore. Especially in the summer when they would rather be outside.
In today's culture, people get mad when their favorite show is updated on streaming sites one episode at a time and they have to wait a week to watch the next episode. The younger generation is not going to have the patience to enjoy baseball for the sport it really is.
Baseball will always be around but I can easily see it dropping to being the 3rd or 4th most popular sport in America within the next 10 years. NFL/NBA would be top 2 and soccer/MLB would be 3 and 4.Current careers:

Its funny, looking back on Selig now.
I really don't blame him for letting the roid era happen. It saved his game. If there had been more outcry from people in the game, I think things would have been different. It was complete systematic failure, IMO.
As far as the here and now... I wish everyone involved in this negotiation had the common sense to just claim Covid concerns, and fight their battles behind closed doors, or in a Zoom chatroom. Their PR people should all be $#!t canned for their complete incompetence.
Even more sad they couldn't capitalize on an opportunity to be the ONLY show in town. I think they missed a great chance to grow their game. When they come back, they're going to be competing against everything. And against an embittered fanbase. You want free speech?
