    Re: MLB Off-Topic

I wasn't aware of this until right now, but apparently ESPN put together a College Baseball Invitational Tournament. Most of the top players in college baseball, some top HS prospects, and some lower level (D2/D3/NAIA) players are playing.

I'm not sure of the format, but there were/are 2 games tonight, and I think 2 tomorrow night.

UPDATE: Looks like the 4 other games (2 tomorrow, 2 Saturday) are pay-per-view. No clue how much it costs

A little depressing in the current environment how (generally) MLB players and MLB don't swing one way or the other, they are just mostly irrelevant.

I guess they are going to live off the memory of Jackie Robinson till the end of time.

I watched it all night! So glad to have college baseball back.... For a weekend.

And I had no idea about this either... Hopefully this is a blueprint for other baseball to take place.

          Re: MLB Off-Topic

          Random baseball stat question.

If there was a stat you want introduced or changed in baseball, what would it be?

For me, I want to see advanced win-loss stats for pitchers. Like if a starter leaves a game while his team is winning, and his team wins(regardless if that guy gets the official decision), it counts as a win in that category. Another category is games where a starters team is winning, he gets taken out, and they go on to lose. And so on, even relievers could come into play here (like games where a team is losing when a guy enters and the team goes on to win).

Team wise, I'm not sure how much it gets tracked, but would be interesting to see stats based on a teams win loss record when they score first at home, on the road, or their opponent does so. Or record when leading or trailing after X innings.

              Re: MLB Off-Topic

This isn't my official answer, but on-the-spot I'd like to either deem more value in holds, and/or provide more discretionary aspects to the save statistic. In other words, it shouldn't necessarily be the person who closes out the game.

If a reliever came in the 8th inning up by one run with bases loaded and no outs, and strikes out the 3-4-5 hitters... whilst another reliever pitches the 9th inning up by three runs with bases empty and the 6-7-8 hitters all get robbed of home runs, who really saved that game in the end?

That's an extreme hypothetical, but I'd like for the scorer to have a little more decision-making when it comes to overrides such as that. Maybe it'll make managers think twice than to only put closers in for save-padding, and think more about the game at hand (and maybe closers will become more valuable than just looking at their save numbers).

Or eradicate the save altogether, that works too.

              - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I also always kind of wanted "productive plate appearance" (maybe PP as an initialization) to become a statistic, which means advancing a runner that still provides good scoring opportunities, actually scoring that runner in the process, or putting yourself on base without adding detriment to lead runners. So a walk with a runner on 3rd base would qualify, but a ground out or fly out (for the 2nd out) that advances a runner to third base would not qualify.

              Qualifying plate appearances would include:
              • Base hit, walk, or hit-by-pitch.
              • Sacrifice bunt or fly.
              • (w/ 0 out) Groundout, flyout, fielder's choice, or reach on error that advances a lead runner (DP's withheld).
              • (w/ 1 out) Groundout, fielder's choice, or reach on error that scores a runner or advances a runner to scoring position (the latter portion can include flyouts).

Then, in turn, we could have a percentage of how many plate appearances are considered to be "productive" (let's call it PPP). Any value in this stat can help counter the negligence of high strikeout totals by players.

Maybe the Save(s) should go to the outfielder(s) that robbed the 9th inning homeruns in your scenario. [emoji6][emoji38]

That's partially what my suggested stat would do. It would at least show the type of win.

It looks like a complete lack of leadership and I’m on the side that understands there are logical reasons as to why a season may or should not happen. So can you imagine how a lot of other people are feeling!

Manfred is one guy that needs to be phased out. He doesn’t seem to have any control over the game in a number of areas.
