John Farrell will not be returning as the Red Sox manager, per Dombrowski.

And there was much rejoicing on OS.

Eh, I'm split. He's the only Sox manager to win 3 division titles, but only one of those got past the ALDS.

In his 5 years we finished 1st, 5th, 5th, 1st, 1st. There was no middle ground.

Interesting to see who they get next, as long as we avoid another Bobby Valentine situation.

          Tigers will probably hire him.

It would be a great hire for Detroit. For a last place team, he's good. But once that team gets good, he doesn't get enough done.

Ron Gardenhire and Brad Ausmus have already been mentioned as candidates for the Red Sox opening.

0 chance of that happening, lol. Though my wish was already granted with Farrell getting fired. I don't care who the replacement is, they can't be worse than manager John.

I'm glad to see Farrell go. I couldn't stand watching his pompous *** on my TV screen 18 times a year.

Interesting how Ausmus' name is in the rumor mill. I don't think he'd do too well under the Boston microscope, same goes for Gardenhire though I have tremendous respect for him and have all the time in the world for him as a manager.

I was hoping the Tigers would hire Gardenhire.
                        I think he'd be a great fit.

I think Ausmus is given another chance. But I think he needs to go to a young club.
He would probably benefit getting more experience in the minors too.

I completely agree with you in regards to Gardenhire. He'd be a great fit in Detroit as that's a team looking to get younger and one of his great strengths is teaching fundamentals/the seemingly simple things about the game that can create a culture for winning down the road.

So, I remember in the middle of the ALDS Buster Olney was on ESPN radio saying how Girardi is either going to be fired or leave of his own volition after this season. I honestly can't see the Yanks letting him go after advancing to the ALCS and if they somehow get past Houston that more or less secures his job for next year. The only way he'd leave now IMO is if he walks away.

It's funny how after a few days the perceived fortunes of a manager can change so quickly.
