      Re: MLB Off-Topic

      Simple...

      2 Leagues
      2 Divisions per league
      4 total Division Champs
      8 total Wild Cards

In other words, 2 DChamps and 4 WCs per League.

DChamps should get a bye...WC games start immediately following end of 162 season....Three games, three days, best record gets all three WC games at home...Then WC-winner plays DChamp the NEXT day, beginning the best of 7.

There's a three day break for the AllStar Game...so why not in the post-season for the teams that "earn" the rest?

      Or...perhaps better...

      RELEGATION lolol but...seriously...relegation.

Maybe that's why they got rid of baseball in the first place.
Then the sabermetric crowd will really have won lol. Wins and losses can be so flukey and random at times. It's best to get rid of them all together and just play 9 innings without keeping score. Not all runs are created equal after all, so it's unfair to use them as a way to gage a team's overall success. No time, no score, just the beauty of baseball.

Well the Yankees are significantly better than the Twins. If you were going to break the AL playoff teams into tiers, Cleveland and Houston would be tier one, Red Sox and Yankees tier 2, Twins tier 3. So in this particular case the old format would have made much more sense

But some years that isn't the case, and it makes a lot more sense to have 2 wildcards play each other. Some years having divisions doesn't make sense when a bad team sneaks into the playoffs by winning a terrible division and better teams sit at home. It's never going to be perfect.

I heard an interesting idea today on MLB Now...make the WC game to where if the 1st WC team wins, they advance and if the 2nd WC team wins, a second game is played to determine who advances.

Then what if Team 1 wins? It just becomes a best of 3.

I think it's just Team 1 needs one win to advance while Team 2 needs two wins to advance. So the second game is an elimination game if Team 2 wins the first game.

The Yankees are probably 60/40 favorites over the Twins or something like that.

People forget how tiny the talent disparities are between teams in MLB. This isn't the NFL or the NBA.

I'm fine with that. This is how some playoff formats work in little leagues when they're playing double elimination, where a team in the loser's bracket can actually crawl their way back up into the championship, but they'd have to win twice if they do.

                          Game 1- Team 2
                          Game 2- Team 1

That's one game apiece. If each team has a win, how do you decide who advances?

They've already decided. Team 1 only needs to win 1, Team 2 needs to win the first to reset the bracket like a fighting game tournament.

Which is all fine and good until Team 2 blows them out in Game 1 14-3, but Team 1 wins 1-0 on a walk-off.

Congratulations Team 1! You move on the Division Series!

Sorry team 2, we realize you were fantastic in Game 1, but Team 1 only needed to win one game. Your season is over.

I think that's the point of the idea.

If you don't want your season to end that way, win the 1st WC.
