I actually miss the old rules. It's really cool that someone hits 30 home runs in a round now, but a spectacle is supposed to be seen. Watching a guy stand in the batter's box, and hear them tell us that it's a homerun while the next pitch is nearly on its way reduces the effect.

I bet the current format is really cool if you're one of the 40k people in the stands, but for me it doesn't really make for great TV.

Like I said, the ball should land before the next ball is pitched. And they should actually enforce it, too.

It was like this the previous few years, just not very well enforced.

Big vote in Oakland today on the initial term sheet for the Howard Terminal project. After the term sheet was presented (which was a negotiation in progress) Dave Kaval had this to say:

Kaval: "The current term sheet even with these amendments is not something the A’s have consensus around. I just really want to stress voting yes on something that we dont agree with or we dont have consensus around is not an effective path forward."

He was then asked... "do A's ownership not support what is being presented today?"

And his response: "The current term sheet as its constructed and its current language is not a business partnership that works for us. "

They board then voted for the term sheet 6-2.

A's are scheduled to be in Vegas tomorrow, remains to be seen if they are going to continue to negotiate with Oakland at all.

So that 6-2 vote increases the odds of the As moving?

I wonder how soon we could see them move if they do move.

Current CBA is ending, and if there really is no future, do they move to Vegas in 2023 once a ballpark is built?

No the vote in theory decreases their chances of moving, the vote approved most of what the A’s would need to build the park at the site they want to build on.

But this approval didn’t include some things the A’s we’re looking for and extended their agreement to stay in Oakland from 20 to 25 years.

So basically the city is saying they want to do whatever it takes to keep the A’s in Oakland and now the A’s are just being greedy.

They can no longer use Manfred to bully the city and whether or not they stay is now up to the A’s.

I think it makes them more likely to leave.

They've been negotiating in for some time and remain apart on important issues ($$) and the city council voted and passed their own version of the deal as-is anyways.

But who knows, since that meeting $280m has appeared.

That Athletic article puts into better words what I meant.

Ultimately, I agree with you on their liklihood of leaving icreasing.

But as for the vote today, it's the closest we've been to the possibility of real negotiations in quite some time.

Only this time, it's 100% up to the A's and that probably doesn't go well because of Fischer.

Rays fall under similar category for me too.

Manfred has even said MLB won't open up expansion talks or anything like that until things such as these 2 stadium issues get resolved.

If I'm an owner of another team, I want this done asap. This hurts the MLBs bottom line as well, which impacts the rest of the league. I don't imagine owners would have an issue at all if As move to Vegas.

^ Haven't heard his name in a while, but I guess it's because he had done so poorly lately that he was sent back down to AAA.

After serving 10 years down there before being called up, I guess he just didn't see a career in this sport if he had to spend more time down there. That's too bad.

I hope he finds a way outside of baseball (or back into it), and pronto.

Mercedes was one of the biggest stories of the season before Tony belittled him and basically told him to learn his place.

Tony La Russa taking the Twins’ side after they hit him earlier this year probably didn’t help. Not saying it’s the direct cause because Yermin’s still the one up there swinging the bat, but he started going downhill after that tension went public.

I was thinking of bringing up TLR, but I also think that's such an easy copout. I certainly don't know the mechanics of a major league clubhouse and how that can transpire future performances, but unless it changed the guy from a free-swinger to a reserved and patient batter, I'm not sure if I can buy it.

Although it's not of benefit to Yermin Mercedes and the Chicago White Sox, perhaps all that happened was his true character was revealed. He was softened instead of hardened after that evening, and when demoted he brought himself to retirement. Again, I'm not stating that is really the case nor is this a time to put Mercedes on blast especially since I don't know what he's going through besides the send-down action, but in the long run that "weakness" in character is something that you wouldn't want on your team anyway.

That all being said... bring back Ozzie!
