Yeah I heard this kid is pretty good, but I'll wait to judge him once he plays a year or 2 in the majors.

Remember Rich Harden of the A's??? Everyone touted him as the next amazing A's pitcher. Here's what he's accomplished this year:

    3 G 0 W 2 L 1.62 WHIP 5.40 ERA 16.2 IP 19 K 7 BB

The BB/K/IP ratio is excellent, but aside from that he hasn't faired too well. Granted it's early and I expect him to turn it around, but ya never know...

The Braves biggest concern was his durability. He had a tendancy throughout his minor league career to wear down late in the season.

Good point, we will have to see later on if the year if he's still here. Those speeds are also from the first 3 innings. I have no idea what ranges scouts use and how they come up with them.

I used to work closely with a Rockies scout here in Pittsburgh (during summers in between years of college). He used to help coach a baseball team I played on when I was in High School and I guess liked what I was able to see in players so he asked me if I'd be interested in working with him - no pay of course. I did it for my own enjoyment... But I got to meet some interesting people and had a good time doing it.

Anyhow, when it comes to the MPH on a scoreboard - they're almost never correct and can be very off, even in pro stadiums. When it comes to scouts radar guns, there can be a 2-3 MPH difference from gun to gun - in most cases. Not a big deal. This is why many scouting reports will state "So and so throws in the mid to upper 90's" instead of "so and so throws 96 MPH".

Well, if I'm correct, I believe St. Louis originally wanted Horacio Ramirez in the JD Drew deal.

Personally, I'm glad they got Wainwright instead of Ramirez. I believe Ramirez has the brighter future of the two. Ramirez was complimented by Maddux for his ability and his poise. He reminds me of a young Tom Glavine.

Yeah, Harden has had a rough season so far.

I think he'll turn it around eventually. He's still early in his career and his stuff is too good to continue to be performing this bad.
