Im sure it isnt easy, just dont get the thinking. If you go back, he hit his 3rd HR of the season, benched the next day but ended up getting into that game to pinch hit and went 2/2 in a game that went 12 innings. So thats 3 straight times now hes had a solid game and was promptly given the day off the following game. I guess I just dont see how Kemp will ever get going if he consistently gets benched the day after he has a good game. He missed all of spring training and the first 5 games of the regular season so he needs his AB's which is why this puzzles me even more.

John Gibbons is just killing the Jays with his over use of the pen. I understand it at times but sometimes he burns through his relievers to the point that the pen is now running ragged.

Two straight games with the lead and the pen coughs it up. SMH.

Gotta hand it to the O's though, they took advantage whereas the Jays are getting hits but can't do much.

One of the problems is the starters are burning through so many pitches to get through innings. Hutchison had a great night but it took him 103 pitches to get through six innings. Considering his history, I can see why Gibbons took him out.

We all knew the starting staff was going to be a problem. Having McGowan in the starting staff really compounds those issues because you can't count on him for six innings (I think he threw all of 27 innings last year) and the bullpen is going to get overused as a result.

However, saying all that I don't think the bullpen can complain too much about overwork in April. Some of these guys just aren't going to put up the numbers they did last year. The amount of the walks they're allowing is startling.

Yeah I wasn't particularly complaining about tonight per se but we've seen situations where Gibbons uses one pitcher for one batter where he could use the same pitcher against multiple guys. It's true that the bullpen is one of those things you can't count on year to year as anything can happen. The amount of walks is indeed a bit baffling. Hopefully the relievers can get themselves together.

The only thing I can think of is they're keeping from playing back to back days right now. It doesn't make much sense, but it's all I got. Kemp is the best of the group when he's healthy and going, so maybe Mattingly is just trying to keep him fresh or something.

Brian Wilson and his 15.75 ERA, say you're welcome

I see another DL stint in Wilson's near future

I dont know, just hope Mattingly isnt trying to keep everyone happy as I cant see anyone getting into a good rythem when guys are constantly going in and out of the lineup.

He is, he generally tries to play Crawford and Ethier against righties, and Kemp and Puig against lefties. Then its either a combination of Kemp or Puig against righties. It sucks that Kemp didn't play until late last night, he had a good game against Hamels then right back to the bench. It seems, like always, Don Mattingly is trying to over manage.

3 game series at Atlanta starts tonight. The Reds have finally gotten to .500 after their atrocious start so I hope they can take 2 out of 3 and stay over .500.
Cueto-Teheran on Sunday should be a good pitching matchup.
