    Re: Bye Bye Giants

Okay, unfortunately I know the guy, and he isn't the nicest guy in the world. I mean, don't take this the wrong way, he's a very nice guy, very warm towards people that he knows (like my dad for one), but I can say what I said, because I know his oldest son (Colin), and he's somewhat of those snotty hotheads that think they're the [censored] at baseball and stuff, and I can tell that his attitude carries on from his dad. He's at Serra High School, though, I decided to go to a public school... lucky for me I'm not on his team (he's pretty nice, until you meet him on the field).

Anyways, that didn't really have to do with what I was going to say, but I jsut felt like saying that. All that I'm saying is that he can't blame the team for the stupid moves, or lack of moves, that he made. There was no need to keep Snow, and have Perez as our best shortstop. Also, hello?, haven't you watched any Giants games Sabean? Right field at SBC Park is not a hitter friendly area, so to get Pierzynski wasn't the best move ever either, same with Tucker.

Too many bad moves, I think.

      Re: Bye Bye Giants

I am honestly surprised that this didn't happen to the Giants earlier. Either way, they knew it was going to happen sooner or later.

They have continued to try and plug a couple pieces in every year as stopgaps, but they are usually older guys, and some of the moves, particularly Edgar Alfonzo, have backfired on them.

Their biggest problem is that they have been unable to develop any position players. Can anyone name the last every day player that their organization developed? I can't for sure, but I know it was in the early 90's, and it may have been Royce Clayton, who I don't think is even a starter anymore. The one guy I do like is Pedro Feliz, but he is inconsistent, mainly because he doesn't get enough at bats. I think they would have been wise to jettison JT Snow or Alfonzo this past offseason and stick Feliz in at 1st or 3rd every day. Alfonzo never should have been signed anyway, but that is neither here nor there at this point.

Their starting pitching is old, and not even good other than a healthy Jason Schmidt. Kirk Reuter has surprisingly been somewhat consistent over the years, but he is much like Livan Hernandez in that his record is always something like 12-10 or 13-15. He gives them innings, but he is fading fast. A lot of their young pitchers haven't panned out for one reason or another. Jason Grilli didn't, they traded Russ Ortiz, Kurt Ainsworth and Joe Nathan, Jesse Foppert got hurt, and Jerome Williams looks like he is hitting the sophomore wall. Williams looks like he will be a good one down the road, but they need guys soon. They had better hope that guys like Merkin Valdez are the real deal, because their financial situation isn't going to allow them to go out and get anyone for a while. They are hamstrung.

They could start looking like the mid-90's William Van Landingham era Giants in a hurry if some of these moves go down. Either way, they are already playing like a bunch of old dogs who need to be put down. It would be a much wiser move to lose with young guys instead of veterans they only acquired because they thought they were one or two pieces away from getting back to the World Series, especially since they are apparently going to lose anyway.

Their best trading chip outside of Barry is Jason Schimdt. They could get one or two great prospects in return for him, even though he has arm/shoulder problems.
" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Probably. A team coming down the stretch could always use another strong arm. Other than him though there is really not much else there to trade. This rebuilding project it going to have to come through the organization.

yes, so the giants now have won 10 in a row, only 1.5 games back now. i'm not getting my hopes up yet, since the competition has been less than stellar, but it's nice to have motivation for the boys to keep playing hard.

yes, winning the division is nice, but that's been done before and i won't be ecstatic unless the giants win the entire thing - and i am not (yet) convinced the giants have the horses to do that right now.
