It seems to me that having started so many games in his career and being relatively healthy (I don't think he's had a DL stint right?) may be catching up to him. He's not a Buehrle where he just soft tosses as he throws the ball hard every time out. I don't think it's a matter of injury or anything but rather eventually he's going to lose some effectiveness.

I remember reading somewhere that Verlander's career is following the same arc as a lot of power pitchers. The velocity drop offs, strikeout rates, WHIP, ERA, etc. All guys who rely on power pitches eventually hit the wall.
But having watched him every time he's pitched this year, it seems like he's getting beat on his mistakes a little more. Before when he was throwing harder, he could miss and it wouldn't hurt him too much...but now it's a case of him giving up too many hard hit balls on mistakes. He's also falling behind hitters, and while it may not be more than he's done in the past, his fastball isn't electric enough anymore to consistently get away with being behind good hitters. He's at the point where he has to adjust his pitching style or continue to get shelled.Check out my Houston Astros Dynasties:

Man the Mariners offense needs to give Felix some help. He's absolutely on fire right now. Through 7 innings, has a career high 15 strikeouts.Comment

I can't believe McClendon pulling Felix…100 pitches and he pulls him. I wanted to see him go back out for the 8th and see if 1) he could break is own personal best of 15 K's and 2) see if he could make a run at 20."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. It is based off a scuffle from Friday. Again, he made something out of nothing that day and now this happens. I liked Machado but I have no clue who he thinks he is here.
