Best pure hitter I've ever seen play, and from what I hear, a hall of famer off the field as well. Will be missed for sure. RIP Tony!

Very sad to hear of his passing. I read that he attributed his oral cancer to years of chewing tabacco. R.I.P http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=454940"If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Incredibly sad news. I wish I could find a way to watch some of those games Greg Maddux pitched against the Padres. His battles against Tony Gwynn were masterful.
Rest in Peace. I feel blessed to have been able to watch him.Comment

One of my most vivid memories as a kid was my dad taking me to Jack Murphy stadium to see him get his 2,000th hit. The place went absolutely berserk."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Tony Gwynn passes away at age 54
What a loss. An absolute loss. I'm gutted over this news.
I can't say I saw him play because I was a late bloomer to the game, but all accounts claim him as a living legend on the diamond and as a true gentleman as a person.
This one hurts.
I hope MLB honors him. Great players from past eras die, it's the cycle of life. But Tony Gwynn transcended the game. A league wide tribute would be fitting. I know some teams did their own things to honor his memory, but perhaps MLB can institute a Tony Gwynn Day or something. If there's a person & player who deserves it, it was Mr. Padre.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Ugh....I'm still really bummed about this. I'm born and raised San Diego. Tony Gwynn was and always will be baseball for me. He was the epitome of class. Just such a great player/person. We lost him way to early. I'll be heading to his memorial at Petco tomorrow with my family and have my kids learn about a truly great person on and off the field. You'll be missed Mr. Padre.
