The Cubs just swept the defending World Series Champions on the road.

Never in a million years I thought I'd say those words or type that out. lol

Let's not act like they were up against the Game 6 lineup lol. A road sweep is still impressive, but this Boston team isn't the same one that won the World Series.

16 runs with Castro/Rizzo combining to only account for 4 of them. That's impressive out of this offense

El Coffee's third homer and suddenly the Pirates are +4. Still two big series with the Reds and Cards right before the All Star break.

Speaking of Jays-A's, sucks how Saturdays game is at 10pmEST. When having East vs West matchups on a weekend, why can't they just have it at 4pmEST(1pm PST) or even 7pmEST(4pm PST)? Even if it's a Saturday, 10pm game will obviously equal less viewers in the east coast.

That's weird. I don't remember ever seeing a 10 pm EST start time for a game on the East Coast

The A’s and Oakland poised to strike a deal. Thanks to Bud Selig saying the A’s could leave town immediately

EDIT this was just posted over at MLBTR.

Bud Selig Grants A’s Permission To Leave Oakland
By Zach Links [July 3, 2014 at 1:05pm CDT]
A power play from MLB commissioner Bud Selig has reignited lease talks between the A’s and the city of Oakland, as Carolyn Jones of the San Francisco Chronicle details. Athletics co-owner Lew Wolff informed city officials late last night that he received permission from Selig to immediately move the team to a “temporary or permanent location” if a new LEASE AGREEMENT was not approved.

That email from Wolff – which is reprinted in full in Jones’ article - prompted city and county officials to come back to the table this morning to hammer out a deal. Oakland city councilman Noel Gallo, who was initially opposed to the proposed ten-year lease proposal, said city, county and baseball leaders were on the phone hammering out a deal overnight.

“I think this agreement will be fair,” he said. “It might not be perfect, but I think it’ll be good for Oakland and the region in the long run.”

The Athletics have fought hard for a new stadium for years now and there has been talk of possible moves to San Jose and Fresno at different times. The ten-year lease agreement, which Jones outlined in an earlier article, called for the the RENT TO decline over the course of the contract from $1.75MM at the outset to $1.25MM at the end. While it seemed to be a done deal, some Oakland officials opposed the agreement and it was not completed as expected. Now, it seems that things are back on track to keep the A’s in Oakland.

We get that a lot when an EST team is on the road in the West especially during the week. I think the complaint is more in the vein of "it's the weekend and a holiday one at that, can't they play at 4 PM locally at the latest rather than a 7 PM start".

It's that west coast bias, I tell ya what!

But yeah I agree. I like afternoon games on weekends.

Yeah, I was thinking more of a local 10 pm start time, rather than general 10 pm ET start time.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss . Even better was the story of him and Grilli actually meeting each other in the same airport restroom on a layover.

Welp, there goes the Jays' 8-0 record against teams on top of their division.
