Oakland wouldn't have been able to resign YC after the 2015 season anyways.

Cespedes was always a guy that was going to be traded for parts. I always figured it would be for prospects and not, arguably the best pitcher in the AL

Well I missed everything today, been working..

But, I really despise these big trades. Cespedes is one of my favorite non- yankee players, and the thought of him being in Boston sucks. While I am well aware at how brilliant the Red Sox and Rays front office have been, I can't believe the A's would part with fricking Cespedes?

Seriously, for a rental of Lester? Lester is a good pitcher, sometimes very good, as he has been this year, but I would never part with Cespedes. I get it the A's are all in, but they did not need Lester. A trio of Gray, Kaz, Shark is already good enough for the playoffs, and that back end isn't too shabby either, despite recent struggles from Chavez and Hammel, plus you get back AJ Griffin and Parker next year.

So why drop Cespedes? Sure that rotation is otherworldly now, but they were fine before, they were only the best team in the majors, and now your lineup is weaker, still good, and you lose one of the best arms in the outfield. Hate it. Must be a partial salary dump, best I can come up with.

I hate the Price deal too, Rays are very much in contention, with their recent hot play, so if you are gonna get rid of your ace, you get something big in return. Nick Franklin and Drew Smyly, is not even in the realm of something that I would consider, if I was offered that in a fantasy league or the Show, I would shake my damn head. Better hope that prospect pans out.

Am I missing something here? Horrible trades in my opinion, and the Red Sox won the deadline hands down. I'd bet any amount of money Craig returns to form with Boston, just that type of player.

Not sure Lester is even arguably the best in the AL. Have you seen Sale and Hernandez? The best available in the AL yes.

I'm disappointed my Dodgers didn't go out and add a bullpen piece. I'm happy we held on to Kemp though.

But he would part with them after next year.

So as you admitted, they are all in.

Option A, trade him now for Lester, build a rotation that gives you a tremendous bump in the postseason (which is what this is) or...

Option B, trade him this offseason for prospects.

As previously mentioned, he wasn't going to be an A after next year one way or the other and if you are all in this year, may as well take advantage of it now.

I'm not suggestion this is you but just based on most of the discussion on him today (mainly from people here in Pitt) I'm certain most people only know about him because of HR derby.

Seriously though, look at his stat line. It's nothing overly impressive. HR's that go into the upper deck count the same as HR's that go a foot over the fence and other than his HR numbers there isn't a whole lot of good.

And as an aside fan, A's fans are used to this and it's not really all that surprising. I still haven't bought a jersey since Zito because of this.

I'm still really bitter about the Holliday for Cargo trade though...

I actually had to work today, not hang out on the internet. On to your concerns, while Lester may be a rental, he gives the A's a legitimate lead pitcher in the playoffs. Lester, Samardjiza, and Gray is pretty formidable. Hammel (who I think is a bum), Gray, and Chavez along with that bullpen is nasty. Yes, you lose Cespedes, but you gain a lot of versatility in Gomes/Vogt as a platoon. Not to mention Fuld/Moss/Norris. The As can do a lot of RH/LH stacking with guys who have ridiculous splits. If this team doesn't make the World Series, ill be shocked.

Tampa Bay? Im not sure how I feel about this deal. I try not knee-jerk react to trades, but I have a hard time believing the Rays couldn't have received a "better" haul. Smly, who is not Price, is only 25, is under team control for four more seasons, and should remain a solid mid-rotation starter throughout that time. Smyly, Cobb, Archer, Odirizzi, and Hellickson are all under team control for years to come. Nice. Franklin and Adames do come with strong pedigrees, I don't know much about either, except for Franklin was "supposed to be good".

All in all, an exciting trade deadline. Too bad the Sox (White) didn't make any moves. I wanted Danks moved, but he makes too much, they couldn't get a barrel of tomato cans for this guy, but thats another story.

Didn't get to keep up with all the trades, but IMO there are too many happening these days. GM's are making moves because they don't want to be THAT guy who doesn't make a move…

On another note…70+ pages of trade talk? Can we get the same passion about the actual game between the lines and the weekly game threads, please?

Ehh, other than Opening Day and the playoffs, this has to be the most exciting time to be a baseball fan. Trade deadline day.

Meh…for some maybe, but I prefer the day to day schedule.

I find it weird that there is so much talk in the trade deadline thread. I guess people care more about the trades than actual games, which makes no sense. If you don't care about the actual games, why do you care whether the players playing those actual games are staying or going?
