This is such a sketchy time during the season when all we have are rumors and vague tweets from Taijuan Walker.

So let's be real. Assuming the Rays get a maximum haul for these two (which is what the Rays do), they will get a package that looks something like this:

    Walker
    Paxton
    Miller
    Peterson

It seems like a lot and it is. That depletes the farm. But Jack Z is likely in desperation mode and Price and Zobrist would make the team so much better. Walker and Paxton are studs, but injury concerns loom. Miller should end up being one of the best shortstops in the AL sooner rather than later. Peterson has an impressive hit tool, but is far from a sure thing. His K and BB% was not great at Advanced A as a 22 year old, but the numbers were nice, and he's kept it going since his recent promotion to AA.

As a lifelong M's fan, I'm going all in. Pull the trigger. Felix and Cano are in their prime and you have to maximize that. Seattle can't develop prospects -- it's a fact at this point. A package like that hurts, and I'm not trying to overvalue our prospects... But it would be adding two great players to a fringy team. Their both rentals, but at least we'll have Price through 2015 and maybe Felix and Cano can get in his ear.

I'm excited and nervous as all hell. This has been uncharted territory for M's fans for a long time.
I'm pretty sure Nick Franklin would be included in the deal as well.

God, just when you think RAJ may rebuild, he makes the piece that would net him the most unavailable.

The Tigers are also interested at re-acquiring Joaquin Benoit from the Padres, but are not interested in Houston Street.

As a Mariners fan I would not trade Walker for Price straight up. It is not worth it. Have we not learned anything from the Bedard trade, other than Jack Z is just as incompetent as Bavasi was? Why in the hell would you trade 2 or 3 of our best prospects for a pitcher, when we don't even need pitching? The only way this trade would be worth it, is if we win the world series, and with the way our offense is currently constructed that isn't going to happen. Why trade Walker, and Peterson for Price when we could get Giancarlo Stanton for that? It makes no sense, we need to be looking to trade our assets for hitters NOT pitchers. Price doesn't even want to be in Seattle, and wont resign. No Thanks.

Latest On Trade Talks Between Mariners, Rays
By Jeff Todd [July 18, 2014 at 2:34pm CDT]
FRIDAY: Taijuan Walker‘s name is once again at the center of trade talks surrounding Price, reports Heyman. He adds that Tampa has also expressed interest in the likes of corner infield prospect D.J. Peterson and James Paxton, neither of which is particularly surprising; Peterson and Paxton are two of the top young players in Seattle’s system.

The two sides are discussing various iterations of deals for Price, Zobrist or both. Heyman adds that Seattle might be willing to include Brad Miller in a deal as well, given the emergence of Triple-A shortstop Chris Taylor. The M’s, however, have said they won’t deal Mike Zunino

Doesn't surprise me, Jack Z is an idiot. We need impact hitters not pitchers you moron. I can't believe how he is still employed. If I did my job as bad as he does his, I would have been fired my first week on the job.

Cole Hamels is available in the right deal no matter what they say. If a team ponies up their top prospects for Hamels the Phillies will pull the trigger.

Not that it would happen, but if the Dodgers agreed to send Pederson, Urias, and Lee to the Phillies, Hamels would be out of here in a flash.

You're not getting even close to Stanton for Walker and Peterson.

Comparing Price to Bedard is also an insult to Price. At the time of the Bedard trade, he hadn't even topped 200 innings yet. David Price is a Cy Young winning pitcher who is pitching almost as well as Felix has been lately. With Price, you know for sure what you're getting, which is a bonafide ace. The idea behind it would be that you could roll out a rotation of Felix, Price, and Iwakuma, and even a number four of Chris Young, who is pitching out of his mind right now. If the Mariners can't find an impact bat at a reasonable cost, then it's not a bad idea to just continue building on one of their strengths.

Hmm. Wonder who's on the move. Baez seems like a good fit for Tampa but you gotta wonder what Seattle would give up to make that happen

They will have to give up Walker, Peterson, Paxton, Franklin, Miller. Probably more especially if they are going to get both Zobrist and Price.
