Re: 7/28 - 8/10 Game Discussion Thread
He was behind the plate, in foul territory. Then he moved directly into the baseline as the throw was coming in. It wasn't a last second reach for the ball, he was still planted there for a second before he caught the throw. If he was set up in front of the plate, inside the baseline, in fair territory, he could have moved toward 3rd base to catch the throw, but still given the runner a lane.Comment

The throw was up the line, but he was still in the baseline. He could have very easily been 1 step inside the baseline and given a lane to the plate.

This team just can't hit good hitting…not that most teams can, but still, this is why they struggle in October. Teheran out pitched Kershaw tonight and loses..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: 7/28 - 8/10 Game Discussion Thread
So a catcher is supposed to keep tabs on the 200+ lbs runner bearing down on him, keep his eye on the ball, AND make sure he's 6 inches inside the baseline. I personally think that's BS…if the ball beats you by that much, I don't care if the catcher is standing on his head on the plate, you should be out.
Starting at 2:09, you get a great view of the catcher moving directly into the baseline, from behind the plate. He had time and room to stay out in front of the plate until he caught the ball, then moved into the line to make the tag.
It's not that he's in the way to make the tag. The issue is that he was in the way before the ball got to him. The throw didn't pull him into the baseline, he moved there with plenty of time to set his feet twice and receive the throw.
Catchers are just going to have to adjust. These rules have been in amateur levels of baseball for many, many years.Last edited by Jr.; 08-01-2014, 12:04 AM.Comment

I agree with you. The rule is stupid. I'm just saying that how it's written, this is the right call. Watch this video: http://m.mlb.com/mia/video/topic/887...call/?c_id=mia

Re: 7/28 - 8/10 Game Discussion Thread
Ummm I think were watching the wrong play here then cause Stanton let's go of the ball and Mathis is standing right behind the plate. He moves closer inside because it's going to land about a foot to the left of the plate. So you're saying he should just sit where he was either diving at it or letting it roll to the backstop?Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: 7/28 - 8/10 Game Discussion Thread
That's a good point. I think they've left too much judgement into the calls. When is a runner trying to score? Is it as soon as he makes the turn around 3rd? Is it when he's halfway? (rhetorical questions)Comment

He didn't make a last second move to catch the ball. You can see him set his feet twice preparing himself to catch it and get in position for a tag.Comment

Idk whatever, terrible rule. Like Sportsforever said that's just way too much for a catcher to have to do just to accommodate for the runner.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Looking at the play in Miami....Man, Redmond had every right to be PO'ed. I'm telling you folks, this stupid rule is going to cost a team in the playoffs.

Braves/Dodgers game was spectacular tonight. What a wasted start by Teheran. Kershaw almost had a "Maddux." Dude's just.....man....I don't think I want to go to a Dodger game that he's not pitching in. Great defensive plays, came down to the last at-bat, and it was a short game. BJ Upton even had two hits. Off Kershaw. For rooting for such a worthlessly inconsistent, maddeningly frustrating team, this was about as great as I could have hoped for.
Most shocking of all was that none of the ****head fans that Los Angeles is known for said anything to me about Atlanta. Totally shocking. And refreshing.
.....forgot to ask, but can one of the stat guys tell me the last time both pitchers had complete games and how often that happens?Last edited by TheMatrix31; 08-01-2014, 02:32 AM.Comment

No, if it wasn't for people thinking they could just create rules and everything'll be better, then none of this crap would be happening. Stupid, stupid situation.
