Re: I\'m getting tired of watching Sosa strike out!!!

I just want to touch on the 500 HRs=HOF thing that was mentioned here.

It will be interesting to see how the voters vote when guys like Sammy Sosa retire. The sad reality is that even a mediocre player can hit 50 HRs nowadays. A lot of the players of this generation are going to end up with borderline HOF power numbers because of this. Albert Belle is a great example of this. He put up some amazing numbers but no one will say that he's a definate HOF'er. The same thing may happen to Sosa.

I also think that postseason performance is going to factor into how the voters vote on the current crop of power hitters when their careers are done. It's true that the postseason factors into the voting but it's going to be far more critical in the coming years due to the fact that many hitters put up gaudy numbers during the season. You're gonna have to have some kind of intangible or uniqueness to get in.

      That's just my take tho.

I agree. Again, I'm a die-hard Cub fan. Of course I love Sosa just because of who he is but like I said, I've watched more Cub games this year than ever before so I get to see Sosa almost on a daily basis. His home run and RBI numbers are the only reason he'll be considered in the HOF. He's not an outstanding defensive player and he no longer hits for average. I think HOF voters should take into account drawbacks as well as the upsides to statistics. Striking out more than 1/4 of the time is not a good number to put in the HOF.

Dusty needs to change the batting order. Sosa needs to move down. In fact, id put Lee at 3, Ramirez at 4 Sosa at 5 and Alou at 6.

Tell me, who did hit in the Milwaukee series?.........that would be nobody.

Sammy is streaky, Sammy likes to swing, he is a power hitter. He is what he is, and he's one of the best of all time at being a power hitter. He will strike out with men on, sure no question. But when he gets hot he can carry a team offensively. When he was out we were losing a lot of low scoring close games and I don't think that's cuz Mike Remlinger or Kerry Wood was out.

When he's out of the lineup teams pitch the Cubs differently becuase that threat is gone. Sammy means more to that offense than anybody else on the team. You may not like that but it is the truth. Just having him in the lineup allows the other players to see better pitches. I didn't realize it as much til I went to Priors comeback game which we lost 2-1.

We have too few bonafide stars in Chicago sports I just think some fans get delusional about thier players. We bitch at our teams when they don't go out and get this or that star, but when we do have a star we bitch and moan about them.

Hell listen to talk radio in Chicago these days. They even bitch about Michael Jordan! That guy has earned a lifetime free pass from the media but people just like to whine. Me, I'm happy for any good player we have. Look how long it took us to get Maddux back.

I agree with everything you said but when he is not on a tear Dusty should put him at a place where the lineups hurt less. What little speed the Cubs do have need to be advanced or scored by singles and productive outs...strikeouts are not productive outs.
