Tell me, who did hit in the Milwaukee series?.........that would be nobody.

Sammy is streaky, Sammy likes to swing, he is a power hitter. He is what he is, and he's one of the best of all time at being a power hitter. He will strike out with men on, sure no question. But when he gets hot he can carry a team offensively. When he was out we were losing a lot of low scoring close games and I don't think that's cuz Mike Remlinger or Kerry Wood was out.

When he's out of the lineup teams pitch the Cubs differently becuase that threat is gone. Sammy means more to that offense than anybody else on the team. You may not like that but it is the truth. Just having him in the lineup allows the other players to see better pitches. I didn't realize it as much til I went to Priors comeback game which we lost 2-1.

We have too few bonafide stars in Chicago sports I just think some fans get delusional about thier players. We bitch at our teams when they don't go out and get this or that star, but when we do have a star we bitch and moan about them.

Hell listen to talk radio in Chicago these days. They even bitch about Michael Jordan! That guy has earned a lifetime free pass from the media but people just like to whine. Me, I'm happy for any good player we have. Look how long it took us to get Maddux back.

I agree with everything you said but when he is not on a tear Dusty should put him at a place where the lineups hurt less. What little speed the Cubs do have need to be advanced or scored by singles and productive outs...strikeouts are not productive outs.

This series coming up with the Cardinals is going to play a big part in how the rest or the season pans out. I was going to go to Busch to see the Cubs (my girlfriend is an usher at Busch Stadium, so I get good seats to say the least), but to be honest I don't have a good feeling about the matchup. I wouldn't be suprised to see the Cubs lose all three, but I sure hope I'm wrong. As for Sosa, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything I'm just frustrated at his production. In my opinion he hurts the Cubs more than helps them. The baseball world is just SO fascinated with the home run now days. Of course the media sees Sosa as a superstar, I just think he's overrated. And that's saying a lot, being a huge Cubs fan, heck I have an authentic Sosa jersey that I spent $170 on!

I'm not arguing either, I just don't see how a player with his production is over rated. I understand if you're not a fan, I mean hell I hate Brett Favre, but I can't deny his success.

I agree this series is pretty big, I believe they're trotting out Prior and Wood. If those guys choke (which is possible, it's the Cubs for god sakes)the team could implode.

I'm just saying I think he's a bit overrated because home runs have become such a huge deal. Ballparks like Houston are even being built to allow more home runs. I'm not saying I don't want Sosa or anything but I just wish he would concentrate more on trying to hit for average. If Albert Pujols went up to the plate and tried to hit it 550 feet every time, I bet he could hit 60 home runs, but he'd stirke out about 160 time in the process. Its just not worth it. I've watched Pujols a lot this year, especially when I go to Busch I really pay attention. He's unbelievable! And I hate the Cardinals. The guy NEVER strikes out. Putting the ball in play is such a plus compared to striking out.

you see pujols is like a contact hitter with a more power than usual contact hitters. Thats why he is one of the best, doesn't strike out often, and hits many line drive homeruns. He is truley a great hitter.

I disagree. If you make solid contact with a controlled swing you will hit more home runs. If you use a controlled swing you will have a better chance at making contact. I think Pujols has the right approach he may never hit 60 (or maybe he will) but I his average will be higher than Sosa.
