Tell me, who did hit in the Milwaukee series?.........that would be nobody.
Sammy is streaky, Sammy likes to swing, he is a power hitter. He is what he is, and he's one of the best of all time at being a power hitter. He will strike out with men on, sure no question. But when he gets hot he can carry a team offensively. When he was out we were losing a lot of low scoring close games and I don't think that's cuz Mike Remlinger or Kerry Wood was out.
When he's out of the lineup teams pitch the Cubs differently becuase that threat is gone. Sammy means more to that offense than anybody else on the team. You may not like that but it is the truth. Just having him in the lineup allows the other players to see better pitches. I didn't realize it as much til I went to Priors comeback game which we lost 2-1.
We have too few bonafide stars in Chicago sports I just think some fans get delusional about thier players. We bitch at our teams when they don't go out and get this or that star, but when we do have a star we bitch and moan about them.
Hell listen to talk radio in Chicago these days. They even bitch about Michael Jordan! That guy has earned a lifetime free pass from the media but people just like to whine. Me, I'm happy for any good player we have. Look how long it took us to get Maddux back.

I agree with everything you said but when he is not on a tear Dusty should put him at a place where the lineups hurt less. What little speed the Cubs do have need to be advanced or scored by singles and productive outs...strikeouts are not productive outs.
