Best and Biggest Fan Base

In your opinion, which Major League team has the best and biggest fan base across the nation?

I know in my region, very few people watch Major League Baseball, but most of the people here pull for the Braves.

I know for a fact that the Dodgers, Giants and Oakland A's have pretty good fans out West. Then, The Yankees and Red Sox have tremendously die-hard fans up north.

Re: Best and Biggest Fan Base

My favorite teams are (in order): Giants, Braves, Red Sox, Mariners.

I believe that the most loyal fans (there for the players) are the A's fans. For them, it's quality, not quantity. Their fans are die-hard, I'm telling you right now. Even if there IS a limited amount, they are great for their team.

I agree with you about the Braves, though I don't think they are the biggest. I would probably have to go with the Cubs, Sox, or Yankees.

5 years ago, I would've said the Indians (594 straight sellouts at Jacobs Field)... now, they are the "Who?"'s.

The last national "favorite team" poll I saw had Yankees #1, Braves #2. That was a couple years ago, though. Now that the Cubs are good, I would imagine they're pretty high on the list.

As for the best fans, I gotta go with St. Louis fans. They're the least obnoxious, most knowledgeable fans, IMO. I think Reds' fans are very good, too.

Cubs, Cards, Braves, Yankees and Red Sox I'd say are the top 5.

I live about an hour away from NY in CT and get all the NY stations and media and I've been a die hard Yanks fan since I was little, and I goto college in Boston, so I get to experience both worlds. It's insane, I've never seen more crazy fans in any sport. And while personally I think Red Sox fans are rather unintelligent alot of the time and don't know what they're talking about (one kid argued w/ me for an hour that Jeter hit .280 last year, when in fact he as third in the AL at .324. About a thousand other similar stories), they live and die with there team like no other fans in the world in any sport.

I'd say the biggest fan base belongs to the Yanks, but the best/craziest/overall diehard has to go to the BoSox. Kids tried to fight me, literally, after Game 7 of the ALCS last year. Freshman year when the Yanks lost to Arizona, some girl grabbed my Yanks hat off my head when I was at a party, poured a whole beer in it, spit in it, then threw it away. Ridiculous.

Reds fans and Cardinals fans are the best fans and I am not just saying that because I am a Reds fan. They are both very knowledgable about the game.
