Yankees by far. In a recent SI they said that the Yankees are on track to become the biggest road draw in baseball history, and they bring something like 13,000 extra fans to every road game.

Lately, the Braves have been doing that to their division opponents (most notably the Marlins), and the Giants do it too... well, not really the Giants, just Bonds.

What I mean is, when/if Bonds leaves the Giants, goodbye high road attendances.

I'd agree with that. Yankees are easily the biggest, I don't think any other team comes close. But they have tons of bandwagon fans too. Boston fans are crazy. And you'd have to be an idiot to be a bandwagon Red Sox fan.

THis is wrong. The Cubs have the biggest fanbase and its because of WGN. WGN is/was broadcast to the South and West to many places that didnt have teams. The Cubs even developed a fan base in some places that did have teams. Harry Caray did an awesome job selling the Cubs nationally. The fact that they were routinely bad made them the underdog and the fact that they would make a challenge every five or so years kept people interested. The Cubs fanbase is underestimated 1) because they have frequently been bad and so the fans are less outspoken 2) there fanbase is extremely spread out and 3) the Yankees/Red Sox are closer to media hubs. Even though Chicago is a large city the national media comes from NY/Washington DC and so the Cubs fans fly under radar. As far as who is the best, well its easy to support a team when they are winning but what about when they are losing? The Cubs fans fill up Wrigley even when they are bad. Sure its partly the ballpark but whats the difference...a ballpark is identified with its team. I wont say the Cubs fans are the best but they are certainly up there.

Also, I would venture to guess that there are more Red Sox fans. There are a lot of people who hat the Yankees who are Red Sox fans by default....plus the Red Sox have there own fan base. I think it only seems like the Yankees because they have been the most successful team in history and in recent years. As a consequence, there fans are more outspoken, more visible and one gets the impression there are more of them. Its definitely not a slamdunk that its the Yankees.
