    Goodbye Mr. Williams

Jimy has been dismissed along with hitting coach Harry Spilman and pitching coach Burt Hooton. To be replaced by Phil Garner as skipper, and Gary Gaetti as hitting coach and Jim Hickey as pitching coach. I hope this lights a fire under the Stros!

Hope this is the turnaround we needed. Heres the ESPN article.

You had to know this was going to happen eventually.

The hometown fans booed him last night when his name was announced before the game, and it was later said that the Astros had an announcement to make today.

See ya Jimy, too bad I don't think many Astros' fans may miss you very much. .

This was a move the Astros should have made a month ago, Williams is not a good manager, he wasn't in Boston, and he REALLY wasn't in Houston!. Phil Garner may be able to turn things around, but with a 10 game deficit in the N.L. Central it may be too late to win the division, however they are only 4.5 games back in the Wild Card. The Astros have a good team, they have struggled offensively of late, if they get Jeff Kent back in the lineup that will be a big help, and Carlos Beltran has not gotten to play many games at Minute Maid Park, so the offense will get better, and with a healthy Andy Pettitte and Wade Miller will be back soon the Starting Staff should get better as well. The Bullpen should get better with Garner, one of the biggest knocks on Williams has always been the way he over uses his Bullpen, the Astros 'pen has been over worked this season, unlike Williams Garner has never been one to use 5 or 6 relievers a game.
The next 2 weeks will be huge in deciding the fate of this Astros team, if they can start winning and at least stay in the Wild Card race then maybe Drayton McLane will give the O.K. to try and get some help at the deadline, but if they continue to falter, then expect a Texas size fire sale on July 31st!.

Jimy Williams is the worst when it comes to player personel so it's no surprise that he's gone. It's pretty interesting to see Garner as the new manager especially in light of his last managerial job. I think he may be what Houston needs. I'm also intrigued about Gary Gaetti being the new hitting coach. All in all you will probably see improved ball from the 'Stros.

Gaetti is pretty well respected for his coaching ability, and I think he will help the bats some. I really don't think Hooton did a bad job, but I guess he got caught up in the housecleaning.

I think Garner might be the best solution in the interim. He's got a lot of fire, and he's a hometown favorite. And while his managerial record isn't all that great, he has never had talent like this to work with.

I'm not a Williams *****, but something had to happen. And after the LA series this past weekend, he sealed his own fate.
