    Re: Goodbye Mr. Williams

Gaetti is pretty well respected for his coaching ability, and I think he will help the bats some. I really don't think Hooton did a bad job, but I guess he got caught up in the housecleaning.

I think Garner might be the best solution in the interim. He's got a lot of fire, and he's a hometown favorite. And while his managerial record isn't all that great, he has never had talent like this to work with.

I'm not a Williams *****, but something had to happen. And after the LA series this past weekend, he sealed his own fate.

Just curious if you Astros fans wish you still had Larry Dierker?

I don't know what to make of Garner. He seems a whole lot like Terry Collins, and the "Killer B's" ran him out of town. They were in their primes back then, though. Probably don't have as much clout now.

Well, I liked Dierker, but it was apparent when his time was up. The same can be said for Jimy Williams. Ganer might not be a better manager than Williams, but something had to change in the Astros clubhouse.

I think an important difference between Ganer and Terry Collins, is that Garner is an established major league player and commodity in Houston. Collins was regarded as a minor leaguer, and his stern clubhouse demeanor did not go over as well as it could have bnecause of his background.
