Re: bonds or ruth
Well I never saw Ruth Play, but by what I've heard Bonds doesn't even deserve to pick the dirt out of the Babe's cleats. Bonds is playing when anyone can hit a homerun, it is still unbelievable what hes doing, but Ruth hit more homeruns than whole teams

Without a doubt, The Saltan of Swat, Babe Ruth Ruth was htting more homers in one season then whole teams back when he played.Comment

Re: bonds or ruth
I will say Bonds. I think he would have an easier time playing in Ruth's era than Ruth would in todays time. But it is hard to compare players from different eras.
Has any noticed that Bonds will win the Batting Avg. title this year? Pretty amazing.

Re: bonds or ruth
Ruth was hitting 40 homeruns when the average player was hitting below 10. That means Bonds would have to hit like 200 homeruns in one season to do what Ruth did. Like mentioned before, he was way ahead of hit time.Comment

Re: bonds or ruth
I'll pick Ruth. Bonds is pumped up on roids and playing in an era when homeruns fly out of parks all the time. Ruth's only "supplements" were liquor and hot dogs. He played when the homerun meant something and could also hit for average. I'm not even mentioning the fact that he was a top flight pitcher.
Besides, comparing different eras is nearly impossible. But, Give me Ruth if i was starting an all-time team, as my #1 pick.Comment

Re: bonds or ruth
I'd have to say Ruth. Besides, i dont think Bonds would've been able to make it in Ruth's day. Probably would'nt be able to have his own recliner and big sceen tv in the clubhouse eitherOh yeah, and the first time Bonds stared down one of his homers, he'd get decked. But of the modern day i'd definetly say Bonds is the best.

Re: bonds or ruth
No disrepect to Ruth, but part of the reason he was so dominate was because of the times. First no minorties, no real minor leagues or scouting system, so players who were great in that era tended to put up numbers, that were far great than there peers because the competitive balance wasn't like it is now.
But if we use that as a basis, go check out how much higher Bonds slugging % and on Base % are than anyone else in the league, he is truly dominant in an era you wouldn't expect to see that.
As far as being on roids, most of you seem to think all the guys are, so that is not a real advantage for him.Comment

Re: bonds or ruth
I'm surprised anyone is even considering Bonds over Ruth. A better argument would be Bonds vs. Mays. Bonds is certainly one of the all-time greats, but he is no Babe Ruth, or even Ted Williams for that matter. No one could do what the Babe did at that time, but Bonds has McGwire, Sosa, A-Rod, and others chasing him.
Everyone points to the fact that Bonds will win a batting title this year, but Ruth regularly hit over .350, plus won nearly 100 games as a pitcher. If I had to rank them, it would be Ruth, Williams, then Mays/Bonds/Cobb all bunched together in a close race for third. By the end of his career, Bonds will probably rate a solid third ahead of the other two though.Comment

I don't think Ruth would do well in todays game. Just my opinion though. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx
