We don't think the Pirates did very well here, but that's because we're not Wigginton fans. If the Pirates had any chance of getting Andy Marte from the Braves, they should have made the deal, even if it meant throwing in a reliever or pitching prospect.

One thing that has me wondering. Rosenthal says that the Pirates give up 2 minor leaguers also.

I hope there is something more to this because this trade sucks for the Pirates... Peterson might be good, but this team needs more bats and not arms. Too many good minor league pitchers in the Pirates system right now.....

Wow, the Mets also give away Kazmir in the Zambrano deal along with Huber in the Benson deal.

The Mets also sent AA Fireballer Jose Diaz in the Zambrano deal. They sold the farm.

Is Scott Layden running this team??

They did get a AAA pitcher from Tampa that I think might be used as a set-up guy this year. He is 29 years old as well so he better pitch soon. The Mets are close to signing the Cuba pitcher so it seems they are set at pitcher for a while. If they dont sign Benson long term these deals are terrible. He is does sign up for more than this year the deal might be ok. I dont like trading Kazmir because he is a young left that throws heat, but some think that he might be best suited as a closer to lessen the stress on his arm. He is only around 6' so he might be more of a Billy Wagner type than Randy Johnson. I dont know why they needed to trade Huber for the guy from the Royals, but I hope they have another catcher in the minors that will be able to play soon.

We trade away Jeff Keppinger, one of our best hitting prospects and we get Ty Wigginton, whom we didn't really want, a pitcher, something we have plenty of, and Jose Bautista, which is good, but we never should have lost him in the first place.

I'm not a fan of this trade.
