        Re: Cubs get Nomar

I think the explanation Boston gave for acquiring Cabreras was a little disengenuous. Im referring to Epstein calling out Nomars defense. He may not have the range as some shortstops but he is not bad by any stretch. The only thing driving this deal was the Red Sox waking up Satruday morning and realizing they were on the verge of getting nothing for a star they were going to be losing anyway. Once they realized the Cubs werent going to give up Clement Cabrera became more appealing. I think the defense of Cabrera justified the trafe after the fact otherwise why didnt they go after him sooner? I realize they were going to get AGon in the rumored Clement/Gonzalez deal but Gonzalez isnt SO much better on defense than Nomar if at all. Yeah, the Sox had to make a move and with this deal I think all teams made out given the state of baseball today. As a Cubs fan Im thrilled Nomar is here. Now hopefully he will be on base for some HRs and also he will be a better situtational hitter in an RBI situations which the Cubs also need ( to that end Sosa moving from 3 to 4 is also good). Half of me was not wanting the trade. The team out there needs to get it done themselves...they dont deserve a life raft I thought. Besides, if the CUbs were going to make a move they should have done it a month ago when the Cardinals were still in sight. But given the way it played out and the fact that the Cubs gave up next to nothing waiting it out is justifiable. Kudos to Hendry on this one and resisting giving up Clement. What Im curious to see is whether or not this will transition from Sammys team to Nomars team? It seems to have gone completely unnoticed that Sammy had a HR and a double and showed some nice hustle in the OF (in spite of the error). Maybe he senses another rooster in the henhouse?

I LOVE NOMAR...MY NEW FAVORITE CUB!

I'll be forking out $200 for an authentic Garciaparra jersey if the Cubs sign him long term. I sure hope he stays with the Cubs in the offseason.
