    Re: 2015 Spring Training Thread

    Well, let's be realistic here.

Not every player has Boras as an agent and not every prospect is Kris Bryant.

That said, I was referring to revisiting it in a way that still benefits the player but doesn't hurt the team in the process. A way that they can still keep control yet enables them to bring their best players up immediately.

Like instead of making it about service time, make it so that once that player plays in a major league game, the clock starts and the team has the control of that player for 7 more years. Give the team the extra year for taking the risk of bringing him up right away and you eliminate the "business decision" of holding a guy out because you are afraid you're going to lose him sooner than you'd like. I'm sure there are other ways to go about it, but just a thought.

      Re: 2015 Spring Training Thread

Looks like Miguel Castro(was in A last year) and Roberto Osuna(also in A last year) will be making Jays bullpen.

Both did do great in ST. Combined 18.2IP,0ER,2BB,16K,0.611WHIP

Drabek CLAIMED by White Sox! Sucks to see him go. He was THE center piece in the Halladay deal but never lived up to his potential. So basically one of the greatest players in Jays history, in the end was traded for nothing that helped Jays at all.

Is top Chicago Cubs prospect Kris Bryant ready for the major leagues? He says yes, but team president Theo Epstein isn't so sure.

Montero had the best day in history. Gordon the worst. And Volquez threw the most pitches ever. Still ST for ESPN too.

Bryant & Baez have to reassigned to Minors camp... Grievance from Boras camp coming in 3, 2, 1.

And he doesn't have a leg to stand on...he will lose that the grievance. And I don't think that the MLB should change this rule. Playing Devil's Advocate here, I think, but this rule helps the small market teams in the league. This is the likes of Tampa, Oakland, KC, etc. These teams lose 95% of these top prospects after arbitration if they don't trade them before hand. I mean you could say that Tampa may have gotten screwed because they had to trade Price during last deadline and they didn't get much back in return. But let's say that they change the rule saying that if a guys play the majority of the first he gets called up like Bryant will, he is a free agent after 5 years no matter what. Now back to Price, he would have been an FA this past offseason and the Rays would have gotten even less than they did because he only would have been a rental player. So allowing for this extra year of team control helps the small market teams.

I am so sick of this Kris Bryant drama. This is how baseball works. It's just the way it goes. So overblown and manufactured.

But I loathe the argument that I've seen and heard way too often that "The Cubs aren't gonna win this year anyway." How the **** do *YOU* know? This isn't basketball where only four teams matter. Lifelong fans of baseball SHOULD have learned by know that literally anything can happen in the sport, and that's why it's the best sport.

It irritates me especially because we know what the "they aren't gonna contend this year anyway" argument leads to: Loser fans clamoring to lose on purpose. The "Oh we're not winning the World Series so screw it, we should just lose and miss the playoffs because who cares about NLDS appearances?" That's the last ****ing sentiment I want to permeate baseball.

Were the Royals "ready to win" last year? No, but they made it to Game freakin' 7 of the World Series and almost won it too.

Do I think the Cubs are going to win the World Series this year? Probably not. But I'm not going to sit here and make blanket, "affirmative" proclamations assessing their "contender" status because I know damn well that anything can happen.

Your thoughts about baseball and the teams that can win are so true. Look at the Red Sox last 4 years. 2011 had the worst collapse in baseball history, had top 10 worst record in the league and worst in the division. 2013 won a WS and tied the Cardinals for best record in the league and last year one of the worst records in the league. Baseball probably has the greatest parity of the 4 major sports in the US.

No wonder Bryant isn't ready lol. 0/9 with 5Ks.

Montero really is a hit or miss player. 23 at bats,12 hits,11 ks.

Volquez so good,he allows 20 hits in 5 innings but just 2 guys scored. 32ks in 5 innings...Perez must have dropped alot of 3rd strikes.

Poor Gordon. 0/32 yet thrown out at home 12 times by Sweeney.
