They're looking for a way to opt out of his contract. If they don't find one I bet they either try and trade him in the off season or release him. Steinbrenner and Cashmen won't stand for this kind of behaviour on the Yankees so if he is with the team in March I'll be shocked.

Brown was a terrible pick up this offseason. Everyone in NY knew he'd be the same injury prone....hot headed... clubhouse cancer as he's been in years past.
But what could we do with Jeff Weaver? People wanted to run him out of town after what he did in the WS last year.

Truth is, I would've rather had him... a young pitcher who could someday become great... and although he couldn't deal with NY.... he would've learned to live with it.

                              Really?

I think of Weaver like I think of Contreras. Good pitchers that just couldn't pitch in New York. I don't blame it on this New York "fear" or anything, but it happens. Some guys just don't perform well.

Don't let the Daily News fool you. Weaver is pitching in LA (a pitcher's park) and Brown despite the injury had a sub 4 ERA and a 10-3 record. Health or not, the deal in my opinion, is pretty even. Weaver might have been pitching the whole season, but I seriously doubt his season worth would have outweighed Brown's 3/4 of a season.
