    Re: Yeah for Aurilia

    Here's what will happen.

Gonzalez is a plug for SS, so it'll be a 3B platoon between Vazquez and Aurilia (when he comes back in a week or so) since I expect Burroughs to be shut down the rest of the season. Meanwhile as for Greene, depending on what happens to the Padres we may or may not see him at the end of this season. It should be more than a week before he can pick up a bat, but he won't be able to field until mid-October.

Burroughs is DONE for the year and might not be able to go in the playoffs coming from Towers and Bochy. Vazquez will be a platoon at 3B with Dave Hensen and Aurilia's Job is to back up the 3rd basemen and the Shortstop so nothing new there.

The Gonzo situation is a fill spot for the last couple of games in the season which is what 15 games? So he plays for the last 15 games and then he is done cause he can not be on the playoff roster if the Padres make it. So trade=Worthless cause Gonzo is a FA after November.

And they gave up nothing to get him. It's not a worthless move. Wait, Ive got it, move Nevin back to 3rd, put Vazquez at SS, and bring in Klesko to play 1st. Now we're back to the 2002 Padres, saweet. Honestly, would you rather have Vazquez and Hanson on the left side of the infield for the next week or Vazquez and Gonzales? Looking at it from a defensive standpoint, the answer is pretty clear.

Why would Vazquez platoon with Hansen when 1) Vazquez has put up better numbers this season than Hansen 2) Vazquez and Hansen are left-handed hitters? It'll be Aurilia platooning with Vazquez because Vazquez struggles against lefties and because Aurilia is right handed.

And why is the trade worthless when we didn't give up anyone? Shouldn't we plug the hole at short so we wouldn't have to play Dave Hansuck?

No way Nevin goes back to third, that's a injury waiting to happen.

Why don't you talk to Towers? Towers and Bochy made the call this morning that Vaz will be platooning with Hansen. Rich will Platoon like has been between 3rd and SS. Defensive Stand point Vaz is good and same with Rich so Defense doesn't matter. The Trade is worthless cause you have to many IF just sitting on the bench which means more bodies on the bench.

Rich Can get the Job Done as the Starting SS without Gonzo and So could Vaz. 3rd Base you can't put Nevin there cause of his shoulder but you could probably stick Robert Fick there or play Vaz there or Rich.

You could put Nady there he use to be an IF give him sometime. There are so many options to plug the hole. It wasn't necessary for this move. Gonzo Stick wont help us much, he doesn't have a very good average.

Padres have the 3 Bench IF players Vaz,Hansen, Aurilia

They have 2 guys that could be used as Utility people like Nady and Fick.

You add a bat that takes away from even more playing time for other guys that have just been sitting on the bench.

The only good thing about Gonzo is his glove. Tonights game Aurilia will start at 3rd and Gonzo starting at SS

I think "platoon" was just the wrong word used to describe the Padres 3B situation, if anything Vazquez and Hansen will be splitting time at 3B against righties and Rich Aurilia will play against the lefties, but what is most likely to happen is Vazquez and Aurilia platoon at 3B and Hansen sticks to his pinch-hitter/spot starter role. Alex Gonzalez is perfectly capable of filling at SS for the last 2+ weeks of the regular season.
