I like you Knight, but that is an extremely condescending thing to post. People disagree, it's the way of the world.

Nobody is 100% beast-mode-activate all of the time and I don't buy it at all when people insist they actually are (usually only slackers try to remind you of how hard they've been "grinding" away at all times). Everybody has bad days and days where they get more done at work that others. This is incontrovertible fact.

Players do what Harper did literally all the time. The only difference is they aren't as good or outspoken as Bryce Harper.

Oh, and they don't have Papelbon in their dugout running his fat mouth.

How would we know the scrappers and grinders and hustlers from the rest of the 'regular effort' players if they all hustled the same? What would Craig Biggio's career have been if everyone played as hard as he did? Hustle/focus is a skill and not all of them have it. Sometimes it's a false narrative, too. But, sometimes a guy really does play harder (David Eckstein, anybody?) usually because he's not as talented to begin with.

More people should be doing what Papelbon did with his fat mouth.

And Harper thinks he's better than the rest... which he probably is... but he then thinks he's entitled to be more... I wouldn't say lazy... but less requited to give as much effort as somebody else who pops up, I suppose.

I mean really, he should be lucky he didn't do that in front of Madison Bumgarner. He would have taken it to school with Harper on the field, and Harper would have been hospitalized as a result. He's showing the pitcher up as much as anything else.

I know Harper is gifted, and I know he has made great plays. So has Yasiel Puig, but I wouldn't quite say that he is fully aware of when it is you give hustle and when it is you don't. I'm not saying they should be running back to the dugout after a strikeout or sprinting to first base on a walk. But reach the damn base before the ball is caught, please. I would love to see somebody intentionally drop the ball just to shove it in their face afterward that they didn't get to the next bag, and have the next hitter hit into a double play.

I find it funny that Papelbon's apparent status as being someone who has "been there" and "knows how to win" came on the back of performances by two of the laziest ****ing baserunners in the history of baseball.

I knew this would come up, and honestly I don't have a great defense over it, except that speed was never a tool of theirs, they weren't 22 years old, and have been chastised in their careers for their lack of hustle as well. Haven't you noticed that David Ortiz doesn't even play in the field in interleague games at NL parks, and Ramirez has a saying for his crazy antics that is "Manny being Manny"? They're not exactly icons, but then again even if they are they acknowledge that they don't quite have all of the tools.

Also, that group had leadership already, and Papelbon, Ortiz, and Ramirez weren't that role. If somebody else wanted to say something, they probably did. Papelbon stepped up in Washington when literally no one would do anything about it. The choking thing is a bit ludicrous and the suspension is well-deserved, I don't think anyone is questioning that. Though, I think more people in that clubhouse have Papelbon's back than they do Harper. Because he literally reminds me of this one kid in high school named Jared Hopper, this douchebag who got called up to varsity mid-year as a freshman, claimed the starting SS position, and thought he could walk over anybody at any time. It caught up to him for sure.

You know who Harper reminds me of most, actually? T-Rex Pennebaker from Mr. 3000. And Papelbon is Stan "The Man" Ross. You know it, too! Haha.

No, he was calling people people idiots. That's par for the internet course. You said that some people posting on OS would never work with you or last in your firehouse because they were complacent, and that you were at a different level than them.

I'm 100% sure dogging it is extremely dangerous as a firefighter. I respect the **** out of Knight and every other firefighter, I sure as hell couldn't do it.

But dogging it is NOT dangerous as a baseball player. I also won't try to compare running into a burning building and saving lives to hitting a popup to the infield and not running my *** off to first base.

If it was any other player, nobody would say anything. If it was Mike Trout, everyone would be saying "good for him, he deserves to take it easy every now and then". But whatever, I'm done with this conversation.

Rightaway wrong. I was a big fan of Harper and all he was doing this year for individual numbers alone. I'm not saying I've now turned away from him, but my comments are after having been in favor of the guy. More so than Papelbon.

I already told you where I stand from. I coach high school varsity softball. The last thing I need to see is these girls not being passionate about their sport and not giving it their all. Sure there are more dropped fly balls there, but Harper really doesn't have an excuse here.

I didn't like not seeing him run it out, but it's the unforgiving post-game interview he had with the media that made me say "Screw him," at least for a little while. I'm glad he didn't make the playoffs now, and I feel bad for the other Nationals players who didn't make the playoffs, including Scherzer (who I also spoke poorly of, but damn his passion was in that for sure).

Toronto will have to wait until tomorrow to clinch with a doubleheader. However, that starts to mess with the rotation a bit. Stroman was probably going to start on Sunday but they'll likely need Hutchison. Hopefully Sunday's game means nothing for playoff seeding and Stroman can be rested up to start game 1/2 in the ALDS.
