Re: call him a jerk and a jackass

I don't think Bonds is a jerk or jackass, I think the media makes him out to be a bad guy for some reason or another. However, I do hate the fact that there is a good chance he used steroids, along with many others. If you look at the back of a Bonds' baseball cards his home runs since 1993 are as follows:

    46
    37
    33
    42
    40
    37
    34
    49
    73
    46
    45

I mean, you don't from a career high of 49 to 73! I'm sorry but the evidence stacks up especially when you look at his stolen bases, and I know you don't steal as many bases as you get older but you also don't blast 20+ more home runs randomly in one season...and not to mention all the crap with BALCO.

I'm still not convinced that steroids helps hitting a baseball.

Steroids don't help you hit a baseball...they help you hit a baseball farther.

Hitting + Bat speed = Power
Strength & Speed adds Bat Speed
          Steroids increase strength and speed

I don't see how anyone can think of anyone but the Babe as the greatest player of all time. He probably would have entered the hall of fame as a PITCHER if he hadn't been such a great hitter!

94-46, 2.28 ERA lifetime as a pitcher, with two 20 win seasons.

In 1919, he led the AL in HR with 29, and Frank "Home Run" Baker was second with 10.

In 1920, he led the AL again in HR with 54, and the runner up was George Sisler .. with 19.

He changed the way the game was played, and dominated it like no other player ever has.

Not convinced of that either. more muscle bulk, IMO, actually inhibits flexibility and the 'quick hands' aspect of hitting a baseball. i'd like to see an actual study one of these days (which of course would be difficult to do).

Back in the 3 man rotation day, if you had a Mike Hampton - like year, 20 wins was a cinch.

Barry Bonds is a great guy, I can get proof of that from Sabean's kid, who by the way is my friend. And what Bonds does for his fans is absolutely terrific. He doesn't need to sign a ball to be considered loyal. The things that he needs to do is lower his contract, resign in San Francisco, wait until his homestand to hit 700, and love each and every person that comes to the ballpark (as said on Sportscenter: "When Barry Bonds was asked if he cares why he doesn't have any friends, he replied, 'What are you talking about? Look at the 40,000 friends that come and watch me play every day?'").

Barry Bonds is a gentleman, but all of us need to respect HIM a little bit more. He's under pressure in getting into this division, STILL in grief of the tragic loss of his father, and being put under the lights by the media weekly about BALCO.

Focus is key in Bonds' mind, and if that means working a little bit more rather than signing some balls, I'm ALL up for it.

Disagree. While adding significant musle mass can limit flexibility, it does not limit the range of motion involved in a baseball swing.

That's what the guys back in the day used to think about getting bigger. They thought if they lifted weights they would lose flexability, thus affecting their swing. Now you'll see many of them saying that they wish they knew then what they know now. What would a little more muscular Mike Schmidt or Dave Winfield had done?
