I'm not talking about walking him intentionally leading off an inning. I'm more talking about men in scoring position with 2 outs and an open base. I'm thinking contending teams will walk him to let a lesser batter try to drive those guys in. Ichiro leading off an inning or with nobody on base, i'm sure the teams will pitch to him. that's why i said the teams will be more likely to pitch to him if they're ahead when Ichiro comes up to bat.

You would walk just about any hitter under those conditions, unless Barry Bonds is on deck.

4 more hits tonight makes it 247 hits, 10 shy of the record with 10 games to go. 1 hit a game will tie it, and the way he's hitting we aren't going to be seeing much 1-hit games.

                That's just amazing.

I was watching a segment on a sports show and they did a report on Ichiro. Ichiro is the most unorthodox hitter to do somethng like this. Ichiro breaks Ted William's #1 rule on hitting in that he lunges forward to make contact on the ball thus shifting his weight before the ball comes to him. So it's even more extraordinary that he could do this with such an unorthodox swing.

                    Re: Ichiro WILL Make it

Let's just say that Ichiro is in his own league when it comes to hitting, maybe not pure "production" because of the lack of power, but when it comes to hitting the ball the guy is in another world. 9 hits in 2 games....not bad.

When Ichiro gets out, he gets himself out.

I always laugh when every single year someone writes about how the league has finally figured him out...and then he goes out and hits .600........

905 hits in his first four years in the MLB, 14 shy of breaking that record

After tonight he is the All-Time leader for most singles hit in one season, both modern-era and past, stretching all the way back to 1898.

He has 11 more games to get 15 hits

6 of those games are going to be against Texas Rangers pitching

Ichiro...heheh....is going to annhialate the Record...no matter what...that'll be like, what, 5 or 6 different records broken this year for Ichiro?

Can't we start talking MVP? I mean come on...this is alot of Records to be breaking to be getting little to no MVP talk. I don't care if it is for a losing team, being on a winning team is not important for an MVP. It stands for "Most Valuable Player", not "Most Valuable Player on a Winning Team".
I think there's a couple of Baltimore players that are more worthy of the MVP than Suzuki (Mora & Tejada) but they won't be in the running, because Baltimore won't even be a .500 team this year.

If there was a "Player of the Year" award then maybe Suzuki would be in the running, but he can't be an MVP .. if Seattle didn't have Suzuki, they'd still be buried (and they are REALLY buried) in last place in the AL West.

but there were no stand out players on the winning teams (from what i recall). this year, boston has ortiz and manny, yanks have sheffield, etc. ichiro will get votes, but probably won't win.
