Yeah, and a colleague of mine and I were noticing that they had playoff tickets up for sale already. Ha! I dont think theyre going to make it. Theyll be passed by the Gents, Cubs and the Astros at least.

If I were a betting man I'd put my money on the Giants to take the N.L. West. They still have six head-to-head games with the Dodgers and L.A.'s pitching staff looks to be the worst of all the play-off contenders (yes, even worse than the Yankees).

Everything seems to be clicking at just the right time for S.F. while everything else seems to be falling apart for L.A.

This is going to be a great race that should come down to the final weekend at L.A. I think the better question would be whether or not L.A. can hang on to the Wild Card spot they'll fall back into against either the Cubs or Astros, and the remote possibilty of the Padres.

Gianst just won to stay .5 game ahead of the cubs. hopefully the Padres can hold up their 4-0 shutout of Dodgers in the bottom of the 8th. GO PADRES

Jake Peavy is done for the day, eight innings of shut out ball striking out a career-tying high of 11 K's.

And now he's only 7 2/3 innings away from qualifying for the ERA title with two more projected starts.

An ERA title and possible ROTY in the same season.

Although the playoffs look like a remote possibilty, I'm happy that we didn't make the Finley trade (or any other trade for that matter). The Dodgers, Giants, and even Rockies are old ball clubs and the Diamondbacks are years away from being good again. We didn't trade away our future and look to have a few extra dollars to go after a pitcher and position player in the FA market this off-season.

Not to mention the fact that we have a strong (and young) starting three in Peavy, Eaton, and Lawrence.

I think we are set up nicely to do well in this division over the next 3-5 years.

If the Padres stick or better my prediction of 88-74, I'll be happy with that... no one expected the Giants and Dodgers to have years like they had this season. If there's one thing that went right this year, it'd have to be that Finley trade... D-Backs did not want to trade with us and they wanted to singlehandedly ruin our team by trying to acquire Linebrink and Otsuka... I say screw the D-Backs, I hope they suffer 35 straight losing seasons...

If Eaton can only get his head straight then we'd have a good pitchign staff... he's the only weak link in the staff outside of the revolving door on the fifth-slot of the rotation.
