It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine. -

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
As Speedy said it's moreso the mega TV contracts that have injected a ton of money into the system. It does seem to be a great system for both sides though I really think players are being paid outrageous sums but hey, it's not my money!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
MLB (owners/teams/players) is generating revenue through whatever means they can: tickets, merchandise, TV contracts etc. and some of that is going out to pay the players.
So I circle back, what do you mean by "the money floating around in baseball is just <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:TrackMoves/> <w:TrackFormatting/> <w:PunctuationKerning/> <w:ValidateAgainstSchemas/> <w:SaveIfXMLInvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:IgnoreMixedContent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <woNotPromoteQF/> <w:LidThemeOther>EN-US</w:LidThemeOther> <w:LidThemeAsian>X-NONE</w:LidThemeAsian> <w:LidThemeComplexScript>X-NONE</w:LidThemeComplexScript> <w:Compatibility> <w:BreakWrappedTables/> <w:SnapToGridInCell/> <w:WrapTextWithPunct/> <w:UseAsianBreakRules/> <w

Market-based salaries are fine. That's the best way to go. Doesn't preclude me from saying that 25 million a year for Yoenis Cespedes is pretty ridiculous.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
Now? I'm not so sure.
There are benefits to that system, but there are also con's.
For one, I'm not sure there's a sport that has more player movement than MLB. That in itself is highly entertaining.
In the NHL there are barely any trades now. The NHL trade deadline used to be awesome. It was like a 2nd Christmas to me. Same as in the off-season and even during the season.
But now, with the current structure, there is little in the way of trades.
And with MLB, spending money doesn't equate to success. Many lower spending teams are competing every season and even winning World Series'.
I can certainly appreciate the other side of the argument though. But I think the current system is working.Comment
