MLB should have Salary Cap and Drug Testing

Like the other Pro sports, basketball and football, Baseball should have a salary cap and drug testing.

Salary Cap will make the teams more equal and make it more interesting for the fans where their team can at least have the chance to win the title after rebuilding.

Drug testing is a no-brainer. The other pro sports and Olympics test for steroids etc and why not MLB?

Completely agree with both even though the salary cap would hurt my team. (Red Sox)

The problem is the MLBPA has more power than god.

I don't agree with the salary cap issue, because baseball just doesn't need one. If you know how to put a team together then the will have a chance at winning. Look at teams like Oakland, San Diego, Minnesota, and Florida. As for drug testing, duh.

I agree that these teams have been successful but I think baseball would be better off with the salary cap. It would help create the parity that we see in the NFL. The Yankees are probably going to hit the $200 million mark next year which is just ridiculous. No matter how well teams like Tampa Bay are run, they will never have a chance simply because they play in a bad division. They will develop players into good major leaguers and then watch them leave to play for their rivals.

They need a salary floor though before they need a cap. Is it that some teams spend too much or that others are content to spend next to nothing, relatively speaking?

Good point. It's a catch 22. Teams need money to be good but won't get money until they are good... Revenue sharing was supposed to fix this but it doesn't work if they don't spend the money they get.

You have a point, but I think where the cap comes into effect is when these teams need to sign those young players. Yes a small market team does need to rebuild from within, but the problem is signing those guys when their contracts are up. Most times an Oak, SD, Minn and many others can't compete with the big markets in terms of signing free agents and holding onto players.
